Minimum wage in NYC is going up to $11 dollars at the end of 2016 and $15 at the end of 2017. So NYCer's aren't too concerned, hopefully by then I'll have a better job, but if not, oh well.

Why is there a hierarchy on customer service positions?? There are a lot of factors that go into working/managing a restaurant..and way more intense customer service situations than a regular customer service desk job.

The losers in my school are the ones with no plans on going to college. Working at a fast food restaurant doesn't make you a loser. Working there with no plan on leaving does

Of course it's unreasonable. It's a job for high school students to make money on the side, instead of being a lifelong career. If the wage is increased, many companies will need to layoff workers and the price of goods will be raised even higher. Do they want that? They're dumb.

Yes, raising minimum wage makes people too dependant on low level entry jobs like fast food. Government should encourage skill building and education and such high pay for a job that requires minimal training and skills is not doing that. McDonald’s workers are so damn rude and lazy, why should someone who cant even bother to try get paid so much? Cant even get a damn order right yet some demand higher pay. I come from a small town. I know the people I'm talking about, and they aren't the people you're talking about.

Clearly people don't always have another option, and I'm well aware that people are often trapped in the field and have to find a way to make a living off the low wage. That's unfortunate but it doesn't apply to the majority of people in fast food who are teenagers putting half their earnings into savings, and having a sob story doesn't mean you deserve to be paid $15 an hour.

If all those people simply refused to stop working fast food jobs? Then what? People who work in the food industry deserve as much respect as anyone else... computers and gadgets are not necessities. Food is and everyone can't just go eat lunch at home everyday or presumably they don't have time or simply don't know how to make their own meals. Lets do some math here....

customers served in one hour X dollar amount + number of customer hours X average salary for each customer in an hour (each customer would lose an hour of work trying to make their own food and eat it themselves) = ???

Now lets say you have 10 customers spending an average of $10 each and lets say they make $25 / hr

10 * 10 + 10 * 25 = $350 / hour

If the average salary is higher then it's more... if the # of customers is more than 10 it is more.... etc and vice versa

Yeah these people need to be paid $20 / hr when considering they have millions of people's health in their hands literally. If the fast food was taken away until people were paid more I guarantee people would have no trouble giving these people $20 / hour or people would change their behavior away from fast foods to something else. Either way it's a win win.

Australia has the highest minimum wage in the world, and $15 USD smashes it Considering cost of living is far higher here than in all of the US sans NYC and parts of Cali, $15 seems insane to me.
