Why is the character "white by definition"?

Why are white people allowed to play another race, but another race is not allowed to play white? That makes no sense and shows a double standard in the entertainment industry. Sadly, it's also the GP that has the double standard.

At this point the racism and double standards that make it uncool for a black person to play a white fictional character but A okay for white people to play characters that should be people of color (ie. people from Africa, Asia, India) is expected. But we're in a "post-racial" society.

The writer has been dead for 50 years, they are talking about the possibility of a black man portraying him in film. And James Bond has always been British, and a "blunt instrument", a faceless individual used as a weapon. Those are his defining traits. How would him being black change any of that?

You don't see white people playing slaves (who can only be black if it's US pre-Emancipation Proclamation), Jackie Chan type people, or President Obama. They have pre-determined races based on their real life race and/or their race in a certain medium.

Because ancient Egyptians weren't black/dark-skinned. They were Arabs. Arabs are Caucasians. Whites are Caucasians. They have similar features...they might as well put a famous white movie star to play it since it won't make a difference in the appearance of the movie. And it's better for marketing.
