It's not that those two statements are wrong. If someone fails with their sophomore album, it is immediately contributed to not having a following. But if someone has released so much music, has had tremendous success with them, and then hit a rough patch, it's seen as okay since they've done so much. Not funny, but reality.
Especially in Britney's case. She's been written off on EVERY album. From how she wouldn't be able to live up to her debut, that she wouldn't be able to change her image, to how she couldn't comeback after all her troubles. Now, it's just another stage in those trails. Because her album is selling modestly, she's "done".
