Right now it's $9,000, I had some grants from scoring 30 on my ACT, was able to get some financial aid and applied for some scholarships, and my parents paid a lot of the rest up front
I don't feel bad at all for the $9,000 [probably end up owing the school $25,000 when I'm done with my degree tho]
It's actually good bc one of my friends is like $64,000 in debt and it's only our 3rd semester
but yeah University in the States is so expensive... average of $30,000 a year
I've currently applied to Northwestern and UChicago which will pay for almost everything (which is good because they're ridiculously expensive ). I'm going to be screwed if I don't get accepted to either of those schools because I haven't applied for any actual scholarships and I'm broke
Even after undergrad, I'll have medical school, so I'm ****ed regardless
My student loan is just under NZ$18,000..but I'm planning on doing masters..so it'll go up to NZ$25,000 I think. And then if I do a PhD... Actually I dont want to think how much it'll be if I do a PhD

Yeah, please do apply to both. I love my school, it's prestigious and has a great program and all,but financially one of those colleges would have been a much smarter decision and I regret not at least following through on my applications to them.

I applied early decision with Northwestern and early action with UChicago. It just ****ing sucks because my 31 ACT is barely average for them so I have no reassurance but I find out in less than a month
I'd be fine going to UW-Madison but I'm pretty sure I'd end up paying more to go there, a public school, than either of the private schools I mentioned above. I have no college fund and my parents barely make enough for us to get by, which is technically a benefit for financial aid but still scary...

Public school will be a more expensive route for you, I won't sugar coat it - I narrowed down to two public schools and a private and essentially decided on the private due to cost (which I both massively regret and greatly appreciate in hindsight at the same time, so take that as you will). But don't really be too afraid - even if the cost ends up being huge, financial aid can help you a lot and loans are nothing that people haven't gotten through before!

I wish I had some sort of security blanket ugh I don't want to apply for scholarships when I'm just now feeling the relief of being done with those two applications. UChicago is so heavy on the essays I just don't want to take out a bunch of loans now when I know I still have to pay for med school later on. Like **** I don't want to be $100k in debt from undergrad alone
