Maslow's Hierarchy of Human Needs -- an oasis PQOTD Philosophical Question of the Day
Psychologist Abraham Maslow's Hierarchy of Human Needs is a pyramid of precautions that need to be taken to reach self-actualization, or one's full potential. The lower steps, or base steps are more important. You cannot self-actualize without fulfilling all of the steps, so he said.
The lowest step is physiological needs, i.e. food, drink, oxygen
The second lowest step is safety needs: to be secure, safe, and out of danger's way.
The third is belongingness and love needs: to be accepted and be loved
Next is Aesthetic and Cognitive needs: aesthetic;feeling happy with how you look, how your environment is, and cognitive; being curious
The top step is self-actualization
I'm sure many of you have studied this, but here's my question:
Do you believe in Maslow's Hierarchy? Do you agree with it? Do you agree that it is like a pyramid, as if you miss one layer you can come crashing down or just not be able to build back up until you fulfill it? Share your opinions.
[
Remember, this is a lifelong process, it isn't completed in a matter of days]
Going to end you off with this:
Self-actualization is a person's need to be and do that which the person was born to do. "
A musician must make music, an artist must paint, and a poet must write" -- Abraham Maslow
