She didn’t lie. But the Oscars do have a problem with recognizing poc. You’re telling me there wasn’t one poc that didn’t shine last year? It’s ridiculous.

I just hope this conversation continues (I doubt it) once the Oscars are over. Hollywood needs to be more inclusive and give more opportunities to poc.

finally someone who speaks the truth. her and Whoopi are one of the few sensible ppl who are actually aware of the problem with the Hollywood movie making system instead of others who just blast the Oscars b/c they didn't get a nom and blame it on the color of their skin and then mysteriously disappears with the color issue until the next award season

If her Emmy speech wasn't enough, this should be it. It is the main reason why black actors, especially ones that are on the edge of breaking through, shouldn't follow through with Will's and Jada's boycott. Will got his movies lined up. A potential franchise coming out in August. He is woven into the system.

The problem was always the Hollywood system.

I agree with Viola that the Oscars aren't the main issue and obviously that there should be more roles for POC, but I've been told that there have been plenty of worthy performances by POC in film this year. Although I haven't seen any of the movies, I'm taking their word for it. How was JLaw's performance in Joy any better than Kiki Rodriguez' in Tangerine? Or how was Matt Damon's performance better than Idris'? The Oscars should be apart of the solution, not part of the problem. It should be a necessity that the Oscar noms have better representation. This has gone on for too long. Glad they plan on fixing it next year.
