After its monster start at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart this week, Taylor Swift's "Red" seems a safe bet to remain in the penthouse for a second frame. The album sold 1.208 million in its first week, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
Industry sources suggest that none of this week's new releases will be a match for "Red's" second week -- even if it drops by 75% in sales (pushing it down to about 300,000).
Most albums that debut with very large sales often lose anywhere between 65% to 75% of sales in their second week -- sometimes more. Swift's last studio album, "Speak Now," dropped by 69% in its second week, moving from 1.047 million to 320,000.
The new Billboard 200 chart's top 10 will be revealed on the morning of Wednesday, Nov. 7.
That said, the biggest new entry on next week's Billboard 200 should come from Meek Mill. The rapper's debut studio set, "Dreams & Nightmares," is on track to sell around 170,000 to 190,000, according to industry forecasters. The second-largest bow will come from Rod Stewart's "Merry Christmas, Baby," which could move about 80,000 copies. A chunk of that figure will be goosed by sales generated from HSN, which will contribute upwards of 28,000 CDs to "Merry's" first week. Stewart appeared on HSN on Oct. 26 and the shopping network is offering the album with an eight-song bonus CD.
Other albums on course for high debuts include Toby Keith's "Hope on the Rocks," Neil Young and Crazy Horse's "Psychedelic Pill" and Flyleaf's "New Horizons."

AND NOW, YOUR TOP 15: This week's top debut, Meek Mill, seems to have been impacted the hardest by this week's storms, flooding and power outages in the Northeast. While most of the other titles are falling in line with expectations, Mill, whose base has been heaviest in the New York/Philadelphia areas, seems to be coming in considerably below earlier forecasts. His projection today has dropped nearly 10% over what the numbers suggested yesterday. In addition, Meek's digital share may be substantially higher than comparable first week titles indicating consumers on the East Coast are more focused on getting their power back on and back to work rather than buying new releases. Here's how it looks headed into the weekend:
Taylor Swift (Big Machine) 325-340k
* Meek Mill (Maybach/Warner Bros.) 165-180k
* Rod Stewart (Verve) 75-80k
Kendrick Lamar (Aftermath/Interscope) 65-70k
Jason Aldean (Broken Bow) 65-70k
* Toby Keith (Show Dog) 45-50k
Mumford & Sons (Glassnote) 40-45k
* Neil Young & Crazy Horse (Reprise) 30-35k
* Trans Siberian Orchestra (Lava/Republic) 24-27k
Pink (RCA) 20-23k
Little Big Town (Capitol Nashville) 18-21k
Tony Bennett (Columbia) 17-20k
Lady Antebellum (Capitol Nashville) 17-20k
* Flyleaf (A&M/Octone) 17-20k
Carrie Underwood (19/Arista Nashville) 15-18k
* Debuts
Here's hoping for as rapid a return to normal as possible on the East Coast. (11/1p)

70% drop for Tay, not bad 2x platinum in 2 weeks after that one.

Adele's finally out of the predictions.
I say about 14-15k for the album next week.
And isn't Rod Stewart's album a Christmas album, and he's already selling in the 75k? Could that be a huge seller this Christmas?

Yeah, Paul predicted that Lady A would be the Christmas album of the year.

Wow. That is an impressive hold. And she has CMA promo today. Maybe she can trend even higher.

Very strong numbers for Taylor, especially considering the Hurricane and all. I bet she'll sell over 200k next week, too.
They need to send "I Knew You Were Trouble" to Pop pronto. That song is begging to be a #1 smash.

Ok, so Taylor wont be competition for Rihanna. I doubt she'll sell over 200k in 3 weeks.

I dont see why it would suddenly drop though. Its been in the 20k range for a while so why would it suddenly drop 5k?

That's an amazing second week no matter the percentage drop from 1.2 million.
