The problem is they have no idea about the economic crisis the world went through in recent years, they think there's a lot of jobs here and they won't have to do much to earn a lot of money, but they don't realise life here is way more expensive + they'll have to adjust to a new culture + probably won't get a job and won't be allowed to stay if that's the case

For what I've seen, Western Europe is usually considered a standard of great opportunities, And maybe that's what they dream about. A country like Greece is not a place for refugees considering their current financial statues. I'e seen from the news many go to Germany to stay their or go to France, the UK, Spain or Northern Europe. Hungry and other countries are just an extension or launch pad to their final destination.

I thought they were running to save their lives. I would think any country that is at peace would satisfy them at least until they can see how to take care of their situation and maybe eventually later go to Western Europe when they get some sort of documents and papers.
I read that when they get to Greece they refuse to get registered, don't want to give their names and fingerprints + a lot of them destroy their passports so authorities won't know who is from where.

This is a good point. Apparently, migrants believe the streets of London are paved with gold. But the economic slowdown hit us hard and jobs are quite scarce, though it is picking up.

Well this is true to an extent but those countries aren't known to be kind to foreigners settling there. Turkey has already taken way too many refugees. Greece and Eastern Europe are struggling right now so if they settle there there will be a huge backlash against them.
Germany has received some refugees warmly, and the refugees stranded in Eastern Europe are aware of this. It only makes sense that they would want to move there. It is not Germany nor Western Europe's responsibility to take them, but they need help. I wish more countries around the world could help.

Exactly. The distinction needs to be made clearer otherwise people will frown on all of them.

Don't mean to offend anyone, but for some of them the "war" is only an excuse. Why don't they go to Kazakhstan, or Saudi Arabia, or the Emirates where they will be around people from their religion, similar to their traditions and similar lifestyle but they all want to go to Germany, Belgium, the UK etc. They are just looking for a better lifestyle.

Every country needs to increase its refugee quota! We have a responsibility to our world, the world is not countries.

What? Isnt it clear? Better life, of course.
These people lost everything they owned in their countries, the homes they lived in, the places they used to work in no longer exist. The war torn areas are economically ruined and even if the wars ended today, it will take decades to achieve some political and economical stability there.
So they know they will have to start from zero anyway, so they are at least trying to do so in countries that are stable and prosperous knowing that their kids will have brighter future there without being endangered.
What is scary is the fact that extremists are certainly using this oportunity to get here too, hidden among the refugees, and that is a huge security concern and main reason why are EU countries reluctant.

In general, Germany is very open to help, the majority doesn't mind or actively supports refugees, but there were so, so many super vile things spreading accross the social media, and I hate, HATE it when even people here bring up economy refugees. Stop that BS for now and show some humanity towards these people who need empathy and support.
The discussion in the country is really controversial, in East Germany the situation is as ALWAYS not as good as in the West where people openly support nazis, but after the vile posts on social media, the climate has shifted. Those who are supporting ignorance get viciously attacked. We simply don't support ugly.

And what's wrong with that? Do you expect them to just accept their life they aren't happy with? Wouldn't you also try your best to give yourself and your family a better life?
That's just normal. Many Germans migrate to the USA because they think they're better off there. Here in my city we also have many white immigrants but nobody is against them,
people only are against colored immigrants. It's a shame.

The sports hall of the school I attented closed down and refugees live there now.
Also in my city there are many Multi-Family Homes only with refugees.

Germany has so far accepted 800,000 refugees this year, compared to the UK which has only accepted 12,500, and Germany sorta ****ed up by allowing refugees to stay who broke the "You must seek asylum in the first EU country you arrive in" rule, encouraging more to go to them. Would you choose to go to Germany and be accepted or go to Calais where you're gonna have to sneak onto the back of trucks and likely either be caught or die?
They have to storm the train station because there has been police blockades outside for the last few days attempting to stop refugees from having access regardless of if they had a ticket or not. It's not a case of "If they lined up nicely they'd all get on eventually"

Wow, I didn't know things were this bad.
But why are they called migrants if they are refugees escaping war? Under international law, they do have certain rights like escaping their country of origin. Migrants are moving for financial reasons, two different things.
|
Because the British media, especially right wing messy ones such as the Daily Mail, are trying to play down the crisis. They're making it more about "People coming here to steal our NHS and benefits!!" than reporting the truth of them fleeing a massive mess in the middle east and Africa.
"David Cameron stands up to Migrant Crisis" vs "David Cameron refuses to aid refugees" - Daily Mail aren't going to sabotage their own man!

Are you personally bothered with refugees or migrants?
I'm German and I see lots of them on the street, even on Grindr and I couldn't care less,
I only want them to live a great life, like everyone deserves.

Germany is building camps for them and transforming empty schools, hotels etc into places where they can stay. But there are still way too many for them to cope with, and the fact that other EU countries who would have the space and means to take them are refusing to is not helping either

Wait why am I just reading the US has taken fewer than 1.000 Syrian refugees They were part of the mess by arming a significant proportion of Syrian rebels and yet they aren't taking any refugees? Realistically not all could go to Europe, the US could take many more refugees
