WTF and SUAD are amazing! but my favorite so far is "Sugar" by Robin! He's very talented but underrated, should be as popular as Calvin Harris or Guetta and the music video is amazing!

Yeah the stuff I've heard from Robin so far is great! I hope he continues having success.

I took this chance to listen to sax, it has a nice instrumental
Sax's instrumental is great, especially the chorus for me! Glad to see I inspired someone to listen to it.

Second Hand Heart almost sounds like a 1D song.
Wait a minute, it kind of does. Take out the folksy elements and it would fit in pretty well on their first albums.

It's nice to see somebody else that likes him! He deserves some exposure. Riser is a great song.
Yeah it's a shame how underrated Dierks is. He deserves to be as big as Luke and the others.
This is probably one my favorite Madonna song from this decade. It just so epic sounding, especially the sweeping bombastic chorus. The verses of this song are just so pleasant to listen to and the pre-chorus buildup to the chorus is just so great and it actually leads to a great payoff. It’s a very nice love song about being able to survive in the face of great adversity, in the case of this song even the apocalypse. A special shout out also has to go to the video for being her best video this decade too. The only really negative thing I have to say about the song is how her voice is auto-tuned in some parts, but’s that’s just a nitpick. I would love it if Madonna made more songs like these.
Number 79!
Ah Anastacia, how I love your music. This song is a cute little empowerment anthem that serves as the lead single to Anastacia’s second greatest hits album. It has a very nice melody and has a very breezy summery vibe about it that I really like. As always with her the vocals are beautiful, especially the parts where she uses her head voice. I will admit that her voice does elevate this song. Her voice has always been a soulful one that has a much lived in feel to it, and that serves here well on this reflective song. You can just feel that she’s been through so much in her life as she’s singing. Its gives this song an earnestness that is kind of missing from a lot of these empowerment anthems.
Number 78!
This is such a nice house song (ok it’s a bit on the pop side of house but whatever). This is such a nice love song that is made great by two things. One is the voice of the singer, I love how much she sounds like she’s yearning while singing the song. It really just adds to the desperate feel of the song. The second thing that really makes this song for me is the Daft Punk-like bridge. When I first heard this song on the radio I was really digging it until the bridge came on and that’s when I fell for this song completely.
Sober: Selena really surprised me this year. Most of the time she manages to make maybe two songs an album that I like but this year she delivered what most would say is her best album yet, and I am definitely in that camp. The best moment on it for me is this song. This is such a great pop song right from the beginning with the vocal chants leading into the big drumbeats that make up the pulse of the song, followed quickly by beeping synths. Lyrically this song is about a toxic relationship that only seems to work when her partner is drunk. It’s about Selena being caught up in the grips of this relationship realizing that she should leave but she can’t bring herself to because when it’s good it’s good. Selena voice sounds (for her standards) very emotional and that’s really what makes the song for me, how she really sounds torn about it. Though for her sake I hope whatever relationship she was in that inspired this song is over
Number 76
Cheyenne: I really love this moody song about falling in love when you really didn’t mean too. I mean it’s a bit douchey if you really think about it “Hey, I’m falling in love with you even though I originally only saw you as a **** buddy”, but hey who uses Jason Derulo for his lyrics anyway. I love just the general sound and melody of this song. It’s so brooding and I love every moment of it. This song is really highlighted by Jason’s voice. I’ve always thought he’s had a nice studio voice. He really sells the desperation here, especially with his falsetto, which unlike some other male acts who like to make extensive use of it, is very pleasant. It’s a very nice pop song all around.
Number 75
Stand By You: The follow-up to one of this websites most hated songs of the year. This is such a cute bubbly love song. It’s a love song about helping someone thorough the pain and staying together even if it’s not perfect. This song is by far one of the catchiest songs of the year especially its booming chorus. Rachel’s naturally sweet voice just compliments the music and the mood so well. I’ve always had a bit of a soft spot for her since I heard 1000 Ships back in the day on my local HAC station and I’m glad to see that she’s come pretty far since then. Also, can we just talk about how gorgeous she looks in the video? Like wow.
Break Away: Thank you Jessie Ware for being a part of this song because otherwise I probably wouldn’t know it existed. This is such a smooth soulful r&b song. It’s very melodic and addictive to listen too. Subject wise it’s about a man telling people that they need to either stay away from him or break away from him if they know him because it’s in their best interests to do so. (Though the song never quite explain why that is). Then Jessie comes in and calls him out for this game while saying she could break his heart again someday. This song is very well served with the edition of Jessie as her cool almost cold voice compliments the part she pays so well, and serves against the warm soulfulness of Bobby Caldwell’s voice.
Number 73!
Uma Thurman: Here we have a big up-tempo pop/punk banger from Fall Out Boy. This song is one of the most energetic of the year. So much energy and such an infectious melody. The two things that really make this song is the sample of The Munsters theme and the lead singer’s voice. I love the surf-rock sections and the way Patrick Stump’s voice just goes with the general “badass” vibe. Admittedly the lyrics of this song are a bit abstract, I mean FOB’s kind of are anyway but with this one it’s really hard to make out what the story here is supposed to be about, which is why this song isn’t higher.
Bad Idea: Typically not the biggest fan of show tunes but I do have a soft spot for this song. It’s probably because it’s Sara but I find this song to be really enjoyable. I like how humorous this song can be at times. I love the energy in this song and I don’t mind how blatantly showtuney this one is. I also love the vocal harmonization between Sara and Jason.
Number 71!
Seventeen: This next one is a nice happier tune from the indie pop duo/band? (I seriously couldn’t find out that much about them even though I tried) named Sjowgren. I discovered this little songs while listening to one of the “happy” indie playlists it made one day. This is this act’s first real song they’ve released. They’ve released an ep of demos but this is their first finished song, and it’s a very promising start. It’s a bouncy, guitar driven ditty about assuring a lover that if they feel they are moving too fast to just tell them and they’ll slow down for them “I’m not in a hurry” as the song says. It’s a nice to see a song about love that is going so well that it can be a bit off-putting because that can happen just as imperfect love happens.
That's it for tonight! Next set will start at around the same time tomorrow!
I was so disappointed with How Deep Is Your Love at first but now I love it and is one of my favorite singles from Calvin Harris (that isn't with his own vocals of course!)
Selena and I've never been a big fan of Madonna but I like that song!
Lean On: One of the biggest bops of the year. I can’t really explain my love for this song more than that really. Well I do really love Mo’s voice on this one and I love the sound of this song. If anyone can link me to songs in a similar vein I would love that.
Number 69!
Talking Body: I was never a big fan of Habits but I am most certainly a big fan of this. I love the generally moody atmosphere and vibe this song has well as Tove Lo’s voice. It sounds so cold yet so sultry at the same time, which compliments this song about stating that if they can love her right she’ll stay with them forever very well. Every moment of this song is great, the moody verses, the explosive yet still moody chorus, and the bridge where it almost feel like time is stopping. This is such a well-crafted pop song and I love the whole cute yet vulgar vibe she has going on here.
Number 68!
XO: I’m not the biggest fan of this girl overall but this song is a big exception. This song is just a perfect blend of pop and country. (Ok maybe it’s more pop and country). This song is so addictively catchy and is so energetic and sassy. That chorus is so addictive. It’s a very fun song about calling out a love interest for still having a crush on their ex while chasing after you.
Monster Lead Me Home: This is a really nice indie/pop song. Sara’s voice is really sweet and I love the harmonies she’s doing with herself here. The chorus is very nice and a great ear worm. This is a really good debut single, hope to hear more from her.
Number 66!
Used To Love You: After two disappointing songs last year Gwen finally seems to be going back in the right direction with this one. It’s such an emotional song where you can just feel Gwen’s sadness over her marriage dissolving. Lyrically this song is really good and the melodies are really good too, especially the pre-chorus which is one of my favorites musical moments this year. However, I have to admit the hook is a letdown to me, it’s nice but not as good as the buildup up to it warrants.
Number 65!
Someone New: This is such a happy feel good song. That’s really all I have to say about it. This was a very nice change of pace from the man who broke through with Take Me To Church. This chorus stays suck in my head for days.
Runnin (Lose It All): This song is really pretty. I love Beyonce’s vocals here and how warm they sound. This is just a really nice love song that has such a great atmosphere to it. It’s feels very ethereal.
Number 63!
All I Ask: This song is one of the best songs of the year from a vocal standpoint. Which is not surprising considering how beloved this song is by fans of the musical and by how talented these two are. Tbh I’m not much of one for musicals at all (hmm it feels like I’ve already mentioned this), but once I heard Kelly was going to be on this track I knew I had to listen to it because I love it when Kelly does show tunes. This song does not disappoint. Musically the orchestra arrangement is gorgeous and the melody of this song in general is great. Kelly and Josh’s voices blend together amazingly here. This is a great vocal from both of them and it’s really great to see Kelly showing off a different dimension to her voice than normal. Also, can we just take a second and praise the hell out of this performance. Just wonderful!
Bitch Better Have My Money: This song is such a hot ass mess and I love every second of it. I do have to admit I wasn’t a fan of this song until two things happened, Kelly Clarkson covered it and Rihanna finally releasing a video for it. Those two things cemented my liking of this song.
Number 61!
Cake By The Ocean: This. Song. Is. So. Damn. Catchy. Like seriously I’ve had the perfection that is that chorus stuck in my head ever since I first heard this song on the radio. I just love the way this song goes from a mellower tempo to a rapid fire one with at the snap of the finger. Thematically it’s not the most original song since it’s a song about getting down at the beach. However, considering its subject matter the lyrics are pretty nice. I actually love the whole “cake by the ocean” line. Another thing that makes this song for me is Joe Jonas’ voice. It wasn’t until I heard this song that I realize I really like his tone, and it complements the desperate, aroused theme of this song so well. Also, unlike other Jonas brothers, his falsetto is actually nice to listen too.
Well that’s it for tonight. The next set will be coming this coming Sunday, probably in the afternoon. See you then!
Lean On is one of my favorite songs of 2015! Should be higher
