Carly Rae Jepson comparison is not really a good one. One makes music that is not your average pop music. The other is bubblegum pop pretty much. Lorde is selling albums, Carly doesnt. Team is already setting up to be a nice hit, and Good Times was like a duo effort. People are interested in Lorde as an artist while people are interested in Carly Rae (if they even know her) as the Call Me Maybe singer.

A lot of that only had to do with the promotion behind Carly's album. Kiss wasn't released until September of 2012, well after "Call Me Maybe" and "Good TIme" had even left the Top 10. Pure Heroine was released at the peak of "Royals"' reign atop the Hot 100. Kiss was actually delayed because Scooter and co. thought it would be a good idea to wait until "Call Me Maybe" died down to release it. It was a total cluster**** of bad marketing decisions.

Carly's spin on bubblegum isn't exactly new, but Lorde isn't exactly doing much that artists like Lana Del Rey and Sky Ferreira hadn't been doing before, either.

Theres a big difference to just doing bubblegum pop and what Lorde, Lana Del Rey and others have been doing sorry . Also Lorde's music is quite distinct from Lana Del Rey's music so . Also do you honestly think people would have kept on buying Carly's album if it was released on a proper time? She would have sold more but she would have dropped into irrelevancy because she doesn't have much too offer musically wise. Or since she isn't that interesting to the GP besides CMM

There are different degrees of stardom, the people seems interested in Lorde (US) and Lana (Europe) as a wholesome. Sky has good critics for her album but the people don't seem much interested and there is no much good live footage on YT.

Carly seems likable but she needs massive single success to get album sales, if the management invest in her music and co-songwriting she can get more than one hit but I have my doubts.

You're acting like bubblegum pop is somehow a lesser genre than whatever it is that Lorde, Lana, Sky, etc. do and that's just stupid.

And yes, it would have. It probably wouldn't have done the numbers that Pure Heroine is doing right now, but yes, it definitely would have sold more and had more longevity.

Lorde is not comparable to Carly though. As stated people take interest in her as an artist. I remember peopel referring to Carly Rae as the Call Me Maybe singer (I think). Also bubblegum pop may not be inferior but its a type of music that has well been used in POP music already. Lorde's type of music not so much, which is why I'm saying Lorde is not a Carly. Far from it.

I said from her first moment that she wouldn't be. I dislike her too much for America to not give her more radio play than she deserves.

As for this sonic discussion, "Team" sounds like it is a Lana Del Rey song and Lorde has not added anything to angsty anti-pop that we didn't see from the 90s. Don't be so quick to laud her just because she praises herself 24/7.

Both have a huge debut single after coming from no where
Both have/had/will have a strong second single
Both had a song bigger then themselves
Both are international

Take away all the subjective mumbo jumbo, and you basically have the same formula. Lorde only best Carly on the album scale, but even then 3/4 is still enough for the comparisons.

Either way Lorde still has a lot to prove, until Team is a solid top ten hit, that last more more then a couple weeks she'll still be a one hit wonder, no matter what people think the song will do.
