This idiocy needs to stop! There is statistical evidence that PROVES that most states with tougher gun laws see less gun violence. People who are criminals and those who are mentally ill should NOT have access to guns. Tougher gun laws won't stop all gun violence but it will undoubtedly lessen the chances of these mass shootings and decrease the amount of gun violence overall. It's ****in common sense!

Also, for the record since I'm defending the "I don't think locking up guns is the solution" side, I do not own a gun nor do I plan to get one or any training for it

I just... really don't think making it more difficult to get guns will save lives.

I think we already do have laws limiting gun accessibility. Clearly they aren't working very well

That's why I said I kinda agree with him. Even though I think he's right about the mental issues, the gun law change is important as well.

You don't need a background check for private sales. A psychopath can go to a gun convention/show and easily buy a gun.

Huh, I don't think a basic background check would be too unreasonable. Though I might argue a psycho evaluation would be more effective. I definitely think basic restrictions should be in place.

Good Lord no one is talking about locking up guns! If you're are a responsible human being who's not out to commit crimes or kill people then you YOU ARE NOT gonna have your guns taken away from you. The point of background checks is to make sure that people who have committed violent crimes and suffer from mental illnesses don't get there hands on guns. Mental illness is a huge issue and needs to be addressed but the overwhelming majority of those who suffer from mental illness DO NOT go out and commit violent crimes and psychiatrist have admitted that it's very rare that they're able to predict when a mentally ill person is a threat to commit these kinds of crimes. There is no one solution to address crime but there is an overwhelming amount of evidence that shows that tougher gun laws WORK.

That's the issue. If I wanted to buy a gun online or go to a gun show and purchase one, I literally wouldn't have to show anything but my ID. That's how easy it is to purchase a gun legally in the US.

Someone who wants to shoot up a school is going to get a gun regardless of whether it's illegal or not. They're psychos, they don't care.
That said, the existing gun laws make it 100X easier for the psychos to obtain those firearms.

It's a step in the right direction. However, some conservatives don't think that's the case and that Obama wants to BAN guns. No he's arguing for more regulation as in required background checks. Guns will NEVER be banned in this country. It's been in society for too many years but something needs to be changed about the accessibility of guns.
