A profound intro isn't quite coming to me right now. Here's the first installment of my fourteen FAAAAvorite videos of 2014.
HAIM "If I Could Change Your Mind"
Dir: Warren Fu
In an alternate universe, America and the world abroad would keep up with the Haims instead, three stunningly...talented sisters from SoCal behind last year's best album. In this one, however, they fly under the radar, so this captivating troupe of stiff yentas is left to be adored by me and anyone with a modicum of TASTE. For this clip, the girls enlisted the help of renowned choreographer Fatima Robinson (Aaliyah) to...teach them how to stick their left foot in and shake it all about or some ****.
I love it. It's endearing and when will Katy, Britney or their newest buddy? NEVER.
P.S. I know all the choreo.
P.S. #2: I performed it shamelessly in front of them, shirt-off at Coachella. Baby Haim looked amused.
Orange Caramel "Catallena"
Dir: [REDACTED by Sony hackers]
I already agreed to not say anything il of Kim Jon his progeny, so...yeah. What Gwen Stefani's dreams must look like.
YG "Do It To Ya"
Dir: some Piru with a body bount
It was either this or that trade catalog in audio-visual form named "Bicken", but I wanted something lighthearted and a clearer shot of YG's cakes (bakes?).
Kylie Minogue "I Was Gonna Cancel"
Dir: Dimitri Basil
Dropped from Parlophone after abysmal first week sales of her latest (and laughed off of Kickstarter after a Cher fan remembered her), Kylie takes to the streets to keep her career going, lights on, sandbags intact, whatever. In this inspiring clip, the former Australian superstar seemingly busks in the middle of a '90s Gap commercial where nan pedestrian stops for her, switching it up occasionally to direct traffic because it's less embarrassing an occupation than being a full-time has-been.
Ricky Martin "Adiós"
Dir: Ethan Lader
A Roaring '20s speakeasy where a Friend of Dorothy is openly embraced is a lovely concept methinks! Ricky Martin does everything J. Lo did but better, including the "Get Right" video.
Grimes f/ Blood Diamonds "Go"
Dir: Roco-Prime
CoOoOoOoOl.
Beyoncé "7/11"
Dir: Farrah Franklin needed to make rent somehow
She almost jumps on her only child and celebrates by inviting over the girls for eggnog and opens her child's presents.
7/11 and HAIM
I think My Song 5's bridge in the music video ended some careers tho.
I didn't know Ricky Martin had a single out.
Go is just...
Let me check out Kylie.
Given that I can probably count the amount of videos on my hand that I've watched (okay, that's probably not true, but it's DEFINITELY true that I remember around that many), I think it's safe to say that this whole list will probably leave me feeling clueless. But hey, that's what YouTube links are for.
