You can do general promotion which will help your reputation improve. (Takes times, can only do once every few weeks)

I've noticed it works fine if you don't edit anything but acts, artists, and labels. I did switch the economy a bit so the sales would be more realistic but it still seem to work fine

there's little promotion available if you're artist is irrelevant, You have to work up to the better promotion

Yeah, and Chart Wars is like a decade old. But it was a lot of fun. It would be cool if somebody came up with a new game that is like both games and has real artists (Gaga, Rihanna, etc).
