There's no such thing as an ugly city in my experience. To immerse yourself in another culture and history and just look around and think "look how different the buildings are here" is such an incredible experience that you would never follow it up with "it's ugly as ****" even if it were in tatters and in a really underdeveloped part of the world. You just take it all in. Travelling is great.
Square is functional though. Has anyone ever been to Sydney? Anyone who's ever been to Sydney has always said "the roads are everywhere." There's no structure to how Sydney was built. They just built as they went. It's such a mess.

Yeah, I don't really know what either city looks like as i've never been, but from the pics...Sydney looks better.

This IS the worst city ever
Just the climate by itself makes it extremely ugly
With extreme winds, the wind chill factor temperature reaches -70C in winter
Add to that the ugly buildings and the fact that this is one of the most polluted city on earth, this is HELL
