I don't really have a problem with "pretentious art," which, by the way, is subjective. What I have a problem with is disingenuous "pretentious art." There's one person who is a real big example of that. Art does not need to be understood by everyone, but when an artist isn't honest about what their art means, and instead, is putting out an art piece, just for the sake or controversy or attention or... money, then the art is not only "pretentious," but also dishonest. I would highly advise you watch the Banksy documentary, "Exit Through The Gift Shop," Jonathan.
