I don't know about England but Scotland don't. If this was two years ago, I would have done this by factorizing it. However the answer schemes allow either way (at least the Scottish ones do, so we're taught to factorise). I only learned how to do the probabilities this year which is my 2nd year of Accounting and Finance at uni. We don't do GCSEs though; we have (had?) Standard Grades/Intermediates and Highers.
However, I doubt they'd have this without being taught it, which makes me think like it was a case of the students going "oh, probability is easy, i'm skipping that".
