Closer #1
tegan and Sara
yo quemé mucho esos 2 temas no solo el año pasado tambien este año
hay un par de temas de tu conteo del 2013 que estaran en el mio este año
This girl has the ability to sound completely different on each song. That is, however, a double-edged sword cause it makes it so difficult for her to stand out from the rest. On top of that her music is quite generic but somehow I liked a couple of the songs she released this year.
Cobra Starship feat. Icona Pop "Never Been in Love"
Every now and then Cobra Starship emerges from under a rock and manages to score a hit or two before fading right back into oblivion. In my opinion this song failed to match their previous efforts, or maybe it's just a little dated. Anyway it wasn't that bad.
Tori Kelly "Paper Hearts"
I honestly don't remember who this girl is or how I ran into this song in the first place, but I find it quite peaceful everytime it randomly pops up in my playlist. One of these days I'll look into her music, perhaps I'll find something I like.
Alicia Keys "We Are Here"
Don't get me wrong I really like Alicia and this song but if she really wanted to release it as a single she could've waited a little longer. As expected it flopped hard even with a performance and I don't think she'll have a chance to have a successful comeback anytime soon.
American Authors "Luck"
When I first heard of this band I really expected great things. But then their actual album came and everything went downhill from there. Their music is...just okay. And the fact that they sound like a washed up version of Imagine Dragons doesn't help.
Cash Cash feat. Bebe Rexha "Take Me Home"
For me this is one of those songs that you could say you're not a fan of but sometimes you catch yourself listening to. This Bebe Rexha girl sounds like she has a decent voice but I was rather disappointed when I listened to a couple of her solo songs.
Bombay Bicycle Club "Feel"
This song is really odd but very catchy. It's like a reworked version of Capital Cities' "Safe and Sound" with a touch of indian tunes. Even the music video is very creative. Maybe their album is worth a listen.
5 Seconds of Summer "She Looks So Perfect"
In another life this band could've been a decent act. Sadly they were heavily influenced by One Direction's antics and now they're selling themselves at the cheapest price. I have to say this song is a big guilty pleasure of mine but it's far from being memorable.
OneRepublic "Ordinary Human"
I really wanted this song to have a video but it was really pointless given the fact that it was paid dust (like the movie it was written for). "The Giver" is a great story, I loved the novels but it really got lost in translation, the movie fell flat. The song did its job though.
U2 "Every Breaking Wave"
I feel like the huge backlash that U2 got for the way they released their album was so uncalled for. The album is far from being their best but they delivered quality material as they usually do. This song was one of my favorites and I'm still mad at the fact that it won't get a video.
The Neighbourhood "Let It Go"
This band is one of my favorite discoveries this year. At first they come off as some sort of weird emo band but when you listen to their songs in detail you find that they're actually quite deep. This song has a strong message in its video, it reminded me of Evanescence's Everybody's Fool.
30 Seconds to Mars "City of Angels"
One last appearance by this band before ending their era. I have to say that I was overall disappointed with their last record, it sounds way too similar to the previous one. This song is one of their classical "anthemic" songs and it could've been great but the video was terribly boring.
Bastille "Oblivion"
Last year I was quite hooked to this band. This year they managed to stay afloat but it's gotten tedious and confusing to keep track on whatever they're doing. It's like they've been releasing all these random singles and videos like there's no tomorrow.
Beyoncé "Blow"
I still don't understand why this song was never released as a single. It screams pop radio hit. Beyoncé doesn't really have much more left to prove but it would be nice to see her back on top with a song or two. "Blow" is infectious and the video is one of my favorites this era.
KONGOS "I'm Only Joking"
This band is just something else. Whatever you think they sound like you can always be surprised. They have this folk vibe but with a very different flavor. Sadly they'll end up going straight to the one hit wonder sack but I hope they continue releasing music like this.
Thanks for your comments.
