My own brother asked me the other day who Kelly Clarkson was.

My mom knows all of 'em. she introduced me to old skool p!nk, Britney, and Xtina.
As a whole, Nicki and Ke$ha aren't that well known.

My parents pay no attention to pop music or pop culture, so if they don't know a certain singer, chances are the singer isn't really a household name.

They know Taylor, because they listen to country music.
They know Britney, because everyone knows Britney.
They know Gaga, because everyone knows (and has an opinion about) Gaga.

They probably know Beyonce (and JLo) because of their movies, etc... But not their music or performances.
They probably know Kelly Clarkson because of her country songs, but don't recognize her pop songs.
They know who Katy Perry is (but don't her music), because they know I can't ****ing stand her.
They don't know Rihanna... Mom only knows her if I mention the abuse thing (and it's been a while, so she may've forgotten).

They don't know Kesha.
They don't know Nicki.
They don't know Pink.
They don't know Xtina.

Nicki Minaj is all over the media - she is a household name for any family.

And Jessie J is obviously a household name. She was on The Voice and even has t-shirts.

Obviously everyone isn't going to know everyone. But I cannot with you ATRL flops truly thinking Kelly isn't a household name.

My 80 year old grandmother knows who she is. She saw her sing the National Anthem in the World Series a few years ago.. and then told me she saw her on Duets (of ALL things) and prefers her as a brunette rather than a blonde.

It basically means, can random people of all different ages or backgrounds recognize who someone is based solely on their name? There are some people where their SONGS are easily recognized, but they themselves as a person are not. If you just said someones name and that's it, would people immediately know who it was?
