She's never been a role model, nor does she she need to be, nor should she be. Although, she did try to be one for a minute. And we saw how that turned out.
^people saying she doesn't want to be a role model forget that.
People need to stop trying to pressure these celebs into being role models. Let them do what makes them happy. Who says they should have to conform to what you want them to say and do?
Well Rihanna herself realized the importance of her influence on her younger fans--see the 20/20 interviews.
Had Will Young talked about the Birthday Cake thing, he'd have a point. His argument about her not singing the kind of lyrics he wants her to reeks of hatred disguised as feminism.

That was mainly the US media. They love that victimised ****.
Rihanna wanted to be a 'role model' when it was convenient. When she realized that all that "girls look up to me" mess she spoke about on 20/20 didn't sell "Russian Roulette" or Rated R, she stopped using the failed tactic. So, I have no idea what some of this "she doesn't want to be a role model" stuff is coming from.
I think it's best to simply ignore her antics. It's safe to say that Rihanna wants to be "the black Madonna" (lol)
so she's clearly being over the top just for the sake of being over the top with little to no substance to back it up.
