It did, in hindsight there were already so many hints that Dan was Gossip Girl, even in season 1 there were hints. Major clue was the book + Gossip Girl disappearing when he was doing the book and him 'coincidentally' appearing in certain places, like the bar where Serena told Gg to meet her
