Doing something completely different could really backfire in a very bad way, but I guess she's already had so much success it wouldn't hurt to try. She could always pull a Rihanna (circa Rated R era) and try the edgy/risky angle at first and if it doesn't work pull a "Rude Boy".

She's had 3 solid eras. It's time for her to do away with songs like Birthday/TIHWD/Roar and explore more pop hot/ac friendly songs like Choose your battles/Spiritual/Double rainbow.
hopefully her relationship will inspire that. plus we need Dark horse edgy for the moment songs.
