While I do enjoy some songs like Pompeii,Radioactive etc i feel like rock bands these days just go for the hits and not really for the creativity like how it was in the past.

I agree. Most of these "alternative" songs are pop disguised as "alternative." I always thought a group like fun. was just an "alternative" version of Maroon 5.
