Rihanna Calls Loud "Flirty" And "Feminine"
October 20, 2010
With the new album, Loud, coming out on November 16, Rihanna has been revealing more and more details about her inspiration behind the music. She definitely experimented with some different kinds of sounds, and she told Spin magazine that the album is "really expressive and sassy and flirty" and it's also "blissful and really feminine."
One of the edgier songs is called "Cheers," which samples Avril Lavigne's ballad "I'm With You."
"It's one of my favorites on the album," Rihanna said of the tune. "It's a song you would hear in a bar but I think you could also hear it all over pop radio. It's really grungy and melodic and catchy. And the way the producers sampled Avril — it's like she's an instrument. It's really cool how they combined [the song] with her vocals."
The singer also spoke about the Reggae-influenced track "Man Down," which has a Jamaican and West Indian vibe. "The song is about breaking a man's heart," Rihanna explained. "It's a very cleverly written song and what I love about it is that it's not a lyric you'd normally hear a female singing."
Meanwhile, even though the record is due in less than a month,
Rihanna may still find time to squeeze in a duet with her pal Katy Perry. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, she said, "We're actually in the studio talking about that right now, so you never know!" Rihanna also revealed that she teams with Nicki Minaj on the track "Raining Men," which is "about how if things don't work out with one guy, there are always many more other guys out there."
