She is a victim of cultural appropriation because we have SEEN people literally STEAL her **** and a blind eye is turned to it. I will never forget how Katy just STOLE the ****ing theme and EVERYTHING else from the O2 commercial. No credit given whatsoever. I mean, literally just took the whole ****ing theme from the camera angles to the attire and everything else. WOW. Black people can't have ****.
And then you can have Beyonce KILL the competition since 1996 and barely gets recognized but Lady Gaga was PRAISED as a genius, a cultural icon, the second coming, after her FIRST album. Never mind that her consistency waned shortly thereafter.
Another example is Adele. I actually like Adele and this is not shade towards her directly. But how was she put in the same ranks as Aretha, Beyonce, Whitney, Etta James, etc. after her FIRST album? I mean, she never had to prove herself. Yes, she has chops but the people she is being compared to and put in the same category as, have 15, 20, 30, 40+ YEARS of experience.
My professor talked about this one time when it came to Susan Boyle. He was a white, upper-class professor that was EXTRA stuffy but he couldn't understand how Susan Boyle, a contestant on a talent search show, could be put in the SAME ranks as Beyonce when Beyonce had put in LEGITIMATE hard work and TIME. He was a psychology professor and he said he understood that no one expected Susan Boyle to be able to sing so it created an "underdog" complex with viewers that had to make sure she succeeded because she "don't fit the description" of the people that usually sing. Never that she was any better than anyone else because she was a typical singer. Nothing outstanding and astonishing. But Beyonce is EXPECTED to be better so she is not given a fair break. She HAS to be exemplary. My professor just couldn't understand why the industry couldn't give Beyonce the same reception. He also was reluctant to acknowledge racism in the industry although I think that was his main objective.....

I'm glad that Madead's manager has his eyes on Ghosttown.
It needs to be a single.
I know we're alright
Cause we'll never be alone
In this mad mad, in this mad mad world
Even with no light
We're gonna shine like gold
In this mad mad, in this mad mad world

wait slkjdfghasjkgfhsagf
Are you seriously saying that Katy "culturally appropriated" the image of Beyonce walking around in whiteface wearing British Victorian-era esque costumes and imagery?
Because I'm pretty sure, if we're speaking cultural appropriation, it's completely the other way around in this instance.

21 was so big because the album connected with people. It's not just that she's a great singer, she's also a great songwriter and she told a story beautifuly with that album.
It's the same reason of why Taylor is so successful too, she has been telling her story through music all this years. They give you that kind of feeling that every song is about their life and story.
Beyonce will NEVER have this because she can't write. Poor that.

My problem is a thief like Elvis being the King Of Rock n' Roll and nobody remembering that Rock n' Roll was invented by black people. That so little people nowadays remember a Chuck Berry.
I don't like the fact that they are so quick to praise a white person who has a "black" person voice. If they liked black voices so badly, why don't they buy black people's albums? Who they have to wait for someone to be white with a black voice making black music to buy? How don't they understand the racial prejudice behind that? Why is a black voice only to be praised when the person it comes out of is white?
Why is it that Rap doesn't sell much but the first white male that can break that market automatically becomes a legend and sells albums by millions?
How come they feel the need t appropriate every single music we invent : Rock n' Roll, Jazz, Blues, Soul, Disco, Techno, RnB and lately Hip Hop.
I remember during an interview for Cadillac Records when Beyonce straight said Muddy Waters was the King of R&R, and not Elvis. I got my LIFE.LIKE I SAID IN OTHER THREAD
And another point that I would like to add. Why is that Beyonce can CITE her inspiration, say that she watched _________ and felt inspired, credit her dancers, writers, producers, etc. and people will STILL say she stole this or that? But when J.Lo COMPLETELY rips off a Beyonce performance, down to the same dancers and outfits, we are the only ones that catches it? Why does Iggy and Macklemore get to rap about "trapping" and economic hardships that are intricately and uniquely woven into the African-American race and culture but no white people call them out and when black people do, its automatically because of bitterness? Why is Miley able to twerk and receive credit for it being put on the map like she was in her Hanna Montana dressing room coming up with this stuff organically?
But let Beyonce wear the same outfit as someone, let Beyonce give herself ANY credit for being creative, let Beyonce SAY she went on Youtube and saw something and she is AUTOMATICALLY called out and not in a subtle way either. Its plastered in papers, they want to do interviews with the "original" creator, they want to discredit her, etc. ? But I have never seen white people acknowledge how some of "their" people will flat-out STEAL some **** and give the creator not even a second thought, let alone some CREDIT. Its like Robin Thicke and "Blurred Lines". Like it was so apparent that it was a rip-off but it became one of the "biggest" R&B records in history and white people never minded until a lawsuit came into play. But let Beyonce do some **** like that and she is damn near lynched and hung. She NEVER gets that leeway. EVER.
