No because Applause, while having a strong chorus, is about nothing. The only people saying stupid things like 'I live for the applause!' are radio ARTPOP monsters and Gaga.

The song is still a bop. GUY does have this 90s boy band feel to it, so ultimately DWUW was probably the better decision. Maybe replace Robert, even though I enjoy his part a lot.

Applause was an okay lead single choice. Wish the vocals in the verses weren't so offputting though
And the instrumental in the verses sounded a bit cheap. I think it could've done better if it wasn't for those factors (especially the vocals). The "I live for the applause-applause-applause" hook is undeniable

Definitely a better choice than Manicure, DWUW and Venus at least

I think if she changed the songs content to something as self-indulgent and had GUY like vocals then yes.

That ARTPOP in five minutes video really showed the potential of the album.

(Do What You Want, with a more speed up version and featuring anyone else and GUY are the other obvious choices)
