There are good moments (like Messiah is flawless) but Madonna's voice was actually at its best before she got training. Her voice changed drastically after Evita. Her natural nasal Michigan accent had a charm to it. She should have never tried to finesse her voice (singing or speaking).

Um Madonna could only get away with her mediocre voice in the 80's. She sounds dreadful on a lot of Erotica (that's why she talked instead of sung for most of the album). Her albums after Evita up to Confessions have much more pleasant vocals.

She had vocal training for Evita, which is why it got a lot stronger in subsequent albums. Her voice is fine now, too, but sounds a little air-thin in parts of songs like BIM.

Erotica is like her vocal peak . Her voice was at its peak in the early 90s.
Madonna's voice was fine in the 80s. It wasn't a powerhouse voice but it was perfect for pop music.Live to Tell is proof that she could sell a song back then just based on voice. There was a fluid element to her singing back then. After ROL & Music, it became more static
