About your post itself, you are allowed to criticize and discuss, but that doesn't mean we agree with what you are criticizing/discussing. We all believe it went too far in the Nicki base. The problem is that there's not much more I can explain about it. That is the explanation. We allow some offtopic, but what happened in the Nicki base was just much too far.

first of all, thank you for recognizing that that portion of your post could have been taken to sound condescending and i appreciate you apologizing for that. i also want to thank you for the rest of your post because with the events of the night and the way that things unfolded, i believe it was necessary to state conclusively that you all found it to be inappropriate as opposed to wondering what other reasons contributed to the closing of the base thread.
i do however, want to raise a concern that i have for discussion and open up a dialogue with the moderators. the album and single threads being focused entirely on the albums and the singles at hand is understandable, in my opinion, because of the nature of releases and the necessity of having a place for statistics to be tracked in order for people to follow the careers of particular artists. however, i believe it to be unrealistic to have base threads solely devoted to the discussion of the artist at hand. while i understand where that rule originates from and the reasoning behind it, i think it's a bit too idealist. i also understand that the moderators allow a hefty amount of off-topic conversation within threads, but i think that because the discussion so often shifts off-topic and because artists tend not to be active at all times (which makes bases difficult to use), it would make more sense for the bases to be established as freer areas for fans of a particular artist to bond over one thing that they have in common: their adoration for said artist. while it's a bit outlandish, i've even wondered if the bases could be altered or we could have new threads altogether for the fanbases - such as the navy, the barbz, etc. - and not to compartmentalize the site or create larger rifts than are already present on atrl, but rather to offer a clearer picture of the expectations set before us as members. it's confusing to have the bases be delineated as a center for discussion on a certain artist and then simultaneously have a fair amount of off-topic conversation be allowed and go unwarned. it leaves me wondering sometimes whether i'll go too far off-topic and earn a warning point or if i'm within the "ok" range.
i suppose what i'm wondering is if the bases have already been designated - albeit not on-paper - as zones for fans of a certain artist to "hang out" and that the nicki base was closed because the "conversation" shifted to arguments and sexually-explicit discussion which has been established as being not appreciated outside of the blog section, or if the bases are still expected to be used for discussion relating to a certain artist and the on-topic/off-topic separation is hazy, leaving the nicki base to be closed because it drifted into that off-topic zone?
