lol. even if R8 was life-changing and universally loved, the critics would never give her that. maybe 70-75. if it's higher i would be extremely shocked. she's rihanna, she's a popstar that is just now being seen as someone with a decent voice. the critics don't care about her. the critics aren't on ATRL assessing how she's gotten more involved with song-writing and development. the critics don't care about how long she's taken to work on this album. they'll probably mention some of these topics briefly, but will they give her due credit? i would be shocked. it's extremely difficult for a popstar, especially someone who started out not dancing/playing an instrument/writing music/having a stellar voice, to gain acclaim. like, let's keep it 100.
without a doubt, some critics will say:
1) her voice isn't strong enough
2) the songwriting is fake
3) her new "persona" isn't real
4) her sound is too r&b
5) her sound isn't GP-friendly enough
6) who does she think she is, amy winehouse?
7) *insert dumb joke about chris/drake here*
8) she's not as exciting or fun as she used to be
9) why isn't she beyonce? adele? taylor swift?
10) they aren't going to play these songs in the club
11) she thinks she's indie and special now
12) she's annoying
13) etc.
i'm not saying all reviews will be like this, but there will be enough to drag her score down
reviews of rihanna albums are barely about the music. i mean, reviews in general rely heavily on image/perception, which is why RR was able to become so acclaimed. considering the fact that she wants nothing to do with the public and is basically ignoring everything besides fashion/the recording studio, they aren't going to have an easy way out! there's going to be no easy topic for them to project onto the album. which might end up with them resenting her and not understanding the music.
imagine if UNA came out and we had no idea she was with chris... what exactly would they be saying? half of the reviews would be invalid, because they literally aren't about the music. instead, some critics chose to play connect the dots between her personal life and the songs they were hearing. this time, she's giving nothing to work with, just music, and i'm sure some of these lazy-ass reviewers hate it. they don't want to spend time genuinely analyzing a rihanna album, because she's "not worth it." all in all, i'm expecting this album to be heavily misunderstood by critics.

So much TEA.
I mean I really hate that a lot of her music hasn't been given the proper listen. She has kinda always done things on her terms and the critics don't like that about her at all. They can't put her in a box, which is why they always slam her for not being Beyoncé, Taylor, Mariah Carey(vocal ability). Which is why I've always respected her. She's truly paving her own way for herself and other women like her.
I'm glad that this time she's not giving the critics anything to work with and we will see if they truly focus on the lyrics and content or if they will show the bias once again. Rihanna isn't a Madonna, Mariah, but rather her own artist in every way. She's the first of her kind and it sucks she's not more understood and appreciated for it.
