Taylor Swift's backtracking is smart. It benefits her, her fans, and her image. The apology was a great PR move. Swift doesn't really mean her apology, because she was right in defending herself against a bitter rapper. But the apology was a perfect strategic move. I bet Taylor Swift always wins at that
Risk board game.
Now, I do agree with you, Mani, when it comes to Nicki Minaj. Because, conversely, Nicki Minaj's backtracking makes her look stupid. Nicki Minaj criticizes the VMAs. She blasts MTV by bringing out the race card, essentially calling them racist for not nominating "Anaconda." But, then, turns around and
backtracks by saying: "It's all love to MTV. Kisses to my fans and thank you for my 3 nominations." Then what was all the fighting for? Attention? Did she even care about these racial issues she was spouting during her MTV rants? Was it just to be an opportunist? If not, then what was the point? Minaj's beef and backtracking is very transparent and makes her look very stupid, as you've mentioned. In any case, Taylor Swift won.
