It has a combined 25 million AI from Urban and Urban AC. Subtract these two formats and it would only be at 201 AI.

About the classic "Iris":

The song debuted at #66 on the Billboard Hot 100 Airplay chart on April 18, 1998, and eventually spent a record of 18 weeks at number one in Hot 100 Airplay. However it was not allowed to chart on the Billboard Hot 100 because no commercial single had been released. In December 1998, just after the song airplay has peaked, the rules changed to allow airplay-only songs onto the chart. As a result, the song debuted and peaked at number 9 and stayed on the chart for 14 weeks.

Same thing happened with "Torn". I'm sure those songs would be massive #1s

Well Iris wasn't allowed to chart on the Hot 100 until late 1998 because there was a rule barring songs to chart there if there was no physical single released to retail.

My Heart Will Go On was pretty frontloaded due to the fact that the label shipped a limited number of copies to retail stores. I'm assuming that hurt its longevity after the first few weeks. It only spent 8 weeks in the top ten and 20 weeks total on the chart.

Too Close, on the other hand, spent 23 weeks in the top ten and 53 total weeks on the chart - that was pretty rare back in the 90s.

But let's say My Heart Will Go On had been available from the beginning. It would have been massive right?

I just wish someone could make an edited version the charts showing the actual popularity of songs.

1998 could have literally been something like:
MHWGO - 12 weeks @ number one
TC - 8 weeks @ number one
TBIM - 10 weeks @ number one
Iris - 15 weeks @ number one

It makes no sense to eliminate the impressions from Urban and Urban AC from "Uptown Funk's" total. Billboard counts those formats toward its HRS Chart just like Kworb and Mediabase include them in their AI numbers.

Urban and Urban AC airplay contribute toward Hot 100 airplay, so there is no reason to take away those 25 million impressions and wind up with flawed figures. Also, Country is counted on HRS and AI, but UF is obviously not getting any airplay from that format lol. Latin is giving UF some airplay, just like Happy and Blurred Lines, and a bunch of other Top 40 crossovers.

If we subtract Urban and Urban AC (and Country/Latin) impressions from Happy, All Of Me, Blurred Lines, and We Belong Together, the removal would dramatically affect the runs atop HRS for all of those songs too.

The Boy Is Mine was legitimately huge that year, so its 13 weeks at #1 wouldn't have changed much. Also, some argued had the labels made singles commercially available for these songs, the airplay would have not been quite as impressive. This is because the listeners would have their own copy of the song and not need to call in and request the song repeatedly. I would keep TBIM at 13 and drop Iris to 12. I would increase MHWGO though since the song and the movie fed off each other for months.

I was just making a reference that UF's advantage over the other songs is that it's getting spins from Urban and Urban AC. BTW, The Weeknd is also charting in the above mentioned formats.

No Doubt's "Don't Speak" was the 1997 Billboard Airplay Song of the Year. Of course, the Sales Song of the Year and Overall Song of the Year in 1997 was "Candle In The Wind 1997/Something About The Way You Look Tonight." Even if "Don't Speak" had been released as a single in 1997, it would not have finished as the #1 song of that year, but it could've made the Top 5.
