The song that began the era where Taylor completely went full on pop. This song was such a bop at first and I often listen to this as a way to kiss the haters away. Once the album came out though, it was pretty clear that this song was one of the weaker songs on it. That's why it is getting the axe first before all the others (aside from Welcome To New York).
Second of seven appearances by Taylor Swift
59. Ariana Grande f. The Weeknd - Love Me Harder
A lot of people on here say this is Ariana's best single to date, and I have to agree. The production mixed with Ariana's TAME vocals make for a very good song to listen to that will actually have longetivity with listener's ears. All of the Yours Truly singles got old very quickly, Problem got annoying very quickly and Break Free lacks substance. This song has everything going for it which is why it is the highest charting Ariana song
Final appearance of Ariana Grande. Only appearance by The Weeknd
58. Katy Perry - This Is How We Do
What appears to be the last single off of PRISM is bowing out at #58. Personally, this song isn't as bad as people on this site claim it to be. It's a cute party song that is best suited for Spring Break and summer vacation. That being said, I understand why most people don't like this song. It really does lack the quality of some of Katy's other songs like Hummingbird Heartbeat and Legendary Lovers. However, this song is still a tad bit better than Birthday, which I'll rarely play unless I'm REALLY in the mood. I'm glad this song got a good music video though and the music video surprisingly got some longetivity at my school's MTVU. They were playing this video all the way through finals week a couple weeks ago. So, Katy still got the last laugh even with a song that only peaked at #24.
Third of five appearances by Katy Perry
57. Martin Garrix - Animals
The instrumental track that managed to become a Top 40 hit in the US this past spring comes in at #57. The beat is by far very dark and mysterious but builds up into a nice party song. I heard he's doing a collab with Ed Sheeran. I hope that gives him another Top 40 hit.
One of two appearances by Martin Garrix
56. Bonnie Anderson - Blackout
At first listen, listeners would instantly be reminded of Dark Horse by Katy Perry. Thankfully I love Dark Horse, so getting into this song was not hard. The Dark Horse comparisons are a double edged sword though, because I got old of this song quickly while Dark Horse still sounds epic. Regardless, it is the only Bonnie Anderson song to date that I really like.
Final appearance of Bonnie Anderson
55. Amelia Lily - California
The song title alone made me check this song out, because, likewise, California is my home state. It was nice to see Amelia not giving up on releasing music, and actually releasing a song that was more in line with what I figured was her natural sound. This song was a moderate addition to my summer playlist, and it pretty much faded out once summer was over and school started up again, but I'm looking forward to more Amelia music in this new musical direction. And also, the video sucks, but since it was filmed in California, it was nice to feel like home while watching it.
Only appearance by Amelia Lily
54. Lisa Scinta - 1992
Apparently this girl was on Cassadee Pope's season of The Voice, but I didn't start watching until Top 8 that season after I found out Cassadee was on the show. By chance, someone posted this song on ATRL back in August and I got into it. It's a good song made for the summer, but fizzles out once fall kicks in, even in California where it can stay warm through October.
Only appearance by Lisa Scinta
53. Jake Miller - First Flight Home
Jake is pretty much my white rapper crush, but at the same time, he makes really good music. This song is one of them. The meaning of this song is SO good and it just makes you feel good. The music video helped too because it's exactly like the lyrics. It makes me wish I appreciated the song more to make it #1 on my countdown, but it got stuck at #2. Oh well, that's fine.
One of two appearances by Jake Miller
52. Ellie Goulding - Explosions
Ellie has become quite a popular artist for movie promotion. Mirror for The Hunger Games, Beating Heart for Divergent, and back in January/February, Explosions was featured in the preview commercial for Endless Love. It gave me interest back in the song, so I consider it to be a part of 2014 as a result, especially since it charted on the Hot 100 this year as a result of Endless Love using it for their promotion. It's by far much better than Outside and both singles from Halcyon Days.
Third of four appearances by Ellie Goulding
51. Taylor Swift - All Too Well
Taylor's third entry on this list is the song she performed at the grammys this year. That performance was one of my favorites from her and it sparked my interest in the song. It charted on my countdown long enough to retire after 20 weeks. This song is just a really good song and one of the best on Red.
Yeah, Shake It Off was great but when the album dropped, it definitely is one of the weakest tracks.
The thing is that Ariana doesn't have any songs up to par with Love me Harder in her latest album anymore so the single that will (if there will be one) will completely fall flat.
This Is How We Do, sure it is catchy and the music video is fun and probably is one of the best music videos this year, but it is still a weak single.
