All jokes aside, but these are pretty weak numbers for Gaga. It wasn't the smartest move to compete in a week with another big popstar coming off a big era, but I'm not even sure if she would have had the #1 spot to herself on the 19th over Robin and Katy either. Robin is already about to overtake Gaga. The BTW era really did damage her digital power, and if she struggles to sell singles, she will surely struggle to sell albums. "Applause" isn't going to make many people go out and buy ARTPOP.

However, things can certainly turn around for Gaga with the VMAs coming and a video soon to be release. But yeah, I always thought this one wasn't a sure bet right out of the gate. She was coming off of a huge failure with "Marry The Night," which hasn't even gone platinum yet.
