There's nothing wrong in my second paragraph, but it's obvious that we go different points of view. And as I said, it's not profitable to record 1 song that costs 100k ~ 200k when you're selling your album at $0.99, it does not makes sense (at least not to me), but good for gaga if she's trying to get records and be remember for a long time.

As we reported today, Amazon.com has spent literally millions of dollars buying the Gaga album from the Universal Music Group and Interscope at the standard wholesale cost of $8.40, and then selling it to fans for $.99. I can't think of another time a retailer took a loss like this, and I wouldn't expect it to become any sort of a norm. But if a label can convince a retailer to do that, more power to them.

That is just amazing well win-win situation, now imagine if the 99cents thing lasts more than a day.

This has been mentioned too many time and im seriously tired of it already.

Amazon bought the albums from Interscope at WHOLESALE PRICE !!!!
And Amazon's decision to sell the albums at 0.99 has NOTHING TO DO WITH GAGA OR INTERSCOPE !

Also, i hope you guys study some basic business .. There's something known as LOSS LEADER, where businesses try to attract more customers by selling something very popular at discounted price. In this way, they hope those attracted people will not only buy the discounted item but also some other items in their "shop".
It is just like a supermarket that try to attract people by discounting certain goods. Urgh ...

LOL..this thread is a mess but I completely agree. 99 cents is a bail out cut throat move at getting numbers for media rather then actually selling records.

"Born This Way" has been forced , pushed, and gifted to dead people at this point.

I think it's going to have a big debut. These days you have to do this kind of thing to even attempt to break a sales record. And if she sold herself out to get those numbers she deserves it.

Still Born This Way has become a tool for Amazon to compete with iTunes! Almost 500,000 copies were sold for $0.99 so Gaga should be thankfull for this promotion!! It would never reach the million mark without the help of the giveaways and the low prices. I know Best Buy's giveaway won't be tallied but there were other "campaigns" to make the album come out everywhere

1. It's still a customer taking advantage of a deal, not being given music they didn't ask for (like with Best Buy giving them away, which won't count.
   
2. They don't change rules during a week where the rule change will affect someone's numbers
3. It's not Gaga's fault the price is so low, and many of those fans would've bought the album anyway, so it's unfair to hurt her numbers

but you said it yourself - blackout was outsold. if they didn't change the rules it would be unfair to the eagles album which sold 700k
