The problem with Dark Side I think was when it was released, I think. During the summer, when there are so many uptempos to choose from, they're going to be less likely to support a slower track. Somehow, Wide Awake managed to prove otherwise, but I guess that came down to who sang it, mainly.
But typically, slower singles tend to fizzle in the summer, like "California King Bed," for example.
Charlie Brown is just some kind of interesting ecstasy that is different from the rest, Yeah this is real song to take apart and really get into and man the more I listen to it the better it gets. I love songs like this and makes me appreciate masterpieces like this. Damn Chris Martin and the gang can make Charlie Brown look more versatile. Love it when it goes down to the end and yes the instruments play throughout the song are handled amazing., good take on Good Girl but hey we prefer more than the other like Im’ more into Blown Way cause I can speak to it and Good Girl can kick ass for sure but there part that are annoying in the pop spectrum, but yeah it Carrie singles should have a decent run in pop radio if they let it, Trey has some decent club songs to enjoy, sometimes his urban songs just tank but his true R&B songs are a killer and man Heart Attack can make it last and is a good jam and like how it sounds especially the beeping and his voice fits in so well, agree with you on Delta , Blow Me (One Last Kiss) did it job to center out the typical pop songs out there and hey one last kiss and goodbye, Lonely Boy is a catchy tune from the duo, Olly can make you have a fun and craze throwback party and can stride on what he goes for and what a troublemaker he is, Never GO Back is just amazing, Dark Side isn’t too bad but it couldn’t win me over at the end and didn’t care for that much, guess I didn’t went to the Dark Side but wonderful approach nonetheless, well the CP/Ri combo was something but didn’t have that long-lasting impression and yeah I like Chris moreso than Rihanna here but decent effort. One shall never question Coldplay and where they are positioned at the start and end of the set mark .Great job as always can’t wait for more.
Almost all of Delta's other releases **** on that song her worst lead single by far, you should check out In This Life, Believe Again and her latest Album
Troublemaker, this is the song that made me like Olly didnt use him at all before
I'll listen to them and try to get back to you. I heard of Delta before but I just never got around to listening to one of her songs until this year.
And you didn't like Slay With Me Tonight or Oh My GODness? well at least you're a fan now

Lol, well maybe it's a good thing if I seem more mature. Or maybe people just assume most ATRLers are that age.
This band is very unique, incorporating various types of electronic music into alternative rock songs, and I wasn't sure what to think of them at first. And yes, Take a Walk was the first song I heard from them, I didn't start listening to current music until mid-2009 so give me a break Despite having mixed first impressions, the song grew on me very quickly and became one of my favorite alternative hits from the latter part of the year. The lyrics are very interesting, of course when I heard the song on the radio I didn't know what it was about, but I picked up various phrases: "rip apart those socialists and all their dead taxes", "my partner called to say the pension funds were gone", "now I work to bring my family stateside". Naturally I was curious and looked up the meaning, and I found out it was about a struggling businessman trying to do his best in the current economy. I really love the song for that, most bands wouldn't dare to write such political lyrics in their songs. The production is also great, it seems like such a happy and upbeat song even if the lyrical content isn't. This is the only song by Passion Pit in the list.
Mayday Parade "Oh Well, Oh Well"
Another very underrated band. I would classify them as pop-punk, however this song is definitely more influenced by rock than their previous efforts. It's not as amazing as Kids in Love (still pissed that it didn't become a hit), but it's still a cute song with a lot of charm. Everyone knows I'm a sucker for songs that start off slow and build to a huge chorus, and Oh Well Oh Well is certainly no exception. And if this is indicative of the musical direction Mayday Parade will be taking in the future, then I'm definitely here for it, the musical growth really shows. They remind me a lot of The Maine tbh, a band who started off as pop-punk because they were just trying to make it big, then began to evolve their sound to become more alternative rock. Is OWOW lackluster compared to efforts by The Maine? Maybe. But I'm definitely happy to see any type of movement in the rock direction and I know they have a dedicated fanbase that will support them with it. This is the only song by Mayday Parade in the list.
Marianas Trench "Fallout"
It seems like every other song I'm saying, "Here's a great new artist I discovered this year", and 2012 was certainly loaded with great new talent. It was an amazing year for music, I don't care what anyone says. On the topic of this song, well, here's a great new artist I discovered this year. Even though Fallout was their second single, I actually listened to Desperate Measures before this, I'm not quite sure why. When Desperate Measures began to wear on me and it was time to remove it from my playlist, I wanted something else by Marianas Trench, but there was no new single, so I went to listen to Fallout. It was the first "slower" song I heard by them, and I was definitely not disappointed. Josh's voice is so incredible, it's raspy, growly, and the scream he does is just His voice is more controlled and mature than many artists twice his age and I'm not ashamed to say he's one of my favorite male vocalists from the 2000s. Stay tuned because you'll definitely see more from this band in my countdown. This is the first of three songs by Marianas Trench in the list.
Taylor Swift "Eyes Open"
Even though I usually hate Taylor Swift's annoying and overrated music, I can't deny how good of a song this is. Maybe Taylor saw being on the soundtrack to The Hunger Games as an opportunity to experiment with new musical styles, because that's definitely what she did. First, she recorded a folk song with the criminally underrated band The Civil Wars. It was her best song yet, but it remained a promotional single because radio never would have appreciated it Then, as her official single from the soundtrack, she released the rock-influenced Eyes Open. I mean, who knew Taylor could be versatile like this? It almost sounds like something Hayley Williams and co. might record. I love the guitar riff at the end of the chorus, it's really epic and when she sings "keep your EY-EYES OPEN", I couldn't deny it any more, I fell in love with the song I thought this might be a sign of better things to come, but then she released that We Are Never crap and the even worse I Knew You Were Trash. afterwards and it all fell apart This is the only song by Taylor Swift in the list.
Chiddy Bang f/Icona Pop "Mind Your Manners"
One of the few rap groups I really loved this year. I think they're very underrated, people assume that just because they're doing pop-rap they must be trash and that's certainly not the case. Believe me, I had the same mindset when I first went to listen to Opposite of Adults back in 2010, and I was proven completely wrong. The rapper is actually very talented, according to MTV he holds the record for Longest Freestyle Rap and Longest Marathon Rapping Record. Let's see Big Sean, 2 Chainz, or A$AP Rocky achieve a record like that. Also I think their lyrics are very clever. "Why? because I'm feeling invincible, junior high school I had a crush on the principal." Maybe a little cheesy, but I chuckled. They have much better lyrics in Ray Charles and Opposite of Adults anyways. I'd recommend checking them out if you haven't already, they're definitely not your typical rap group. This is the only song by Chiddy Bang in the list.
The Wanted "Chasing the Sun"
The second US single from this British boyband who are ten million times better and more talented than One Direction. Honestly, they remind me a little of Olly Murs for a reason that I can't quite explain; I love Olly so maybe that's the reason I came to love The Wanted. This song wasn't an immediate love like Glad You Came, at first I thought it was kind of lackluster. The chorus is really what got me though, those "oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh"s just slay me so much The lyrics are pretty basic but as I said before The Wanted aren't trying to create a lyrical masterpiece, so people criticizing them for that really need to take a look at their fave's latest singles *cough*We Found Love*cough*. The only thing I wish is that these guys would release a slower song like Warzone as a single, then people couldn't say anymore "all they do is basic dance-pop" This is the second of three songs by The Wanted in the list.
Linkin Park "Burn It Down"
A classic Linkin Park song with the huge beats, the epic chorus, and the rapping by Mike. While it didn't bring anything new, it's far better than their last lead single The Catalyst, which tried to achieve a new sound that I just didn't quite get. I'd rather they stick to their classic sound than attempt something that doesn't fit them at all. Since rock music began seeping back into the mainstream throughout 2012, it was probably a mistake to take so long in releasing BID to pop, by the time it got an adds date it had almost reached its 20 weeks on the Hot 100. Overall I love the song, a great choice for a lead single. Unlike many people though I hated the music video, I thought it was really stupid and pointless... This is the only song by Linkin Park in the list.
Neon Trees "Everybody Talks"
I immediately fell in love with this band when they released Animal back in 2010. I supported it from the beginning and was thrilled when it finally broke through to the mainstream. Unfortunately, follow-up singles 1983 and Your Surrender flopped despite being great songs, and I thought Neon Trees would be another one-hit wonder alternative band. I couldn't be happier that I was completely proven wrong with the infectious jam Everybody Talks. It seems like nowadays every breakout rock hit is becoming successful due to a commercial; Take a Walk, Tongue Tied, Too Close, Ho Hey, and now Everybody Talks But I don't care, I even like it because it gives exposure to all these great songs that I never would have heard otherwise. I'm so excited that Neon Trees are back, I just hope they continue making their great unique music and don't become another sellout pop band. This is the last of two songs by Neon Trees in the list.
Marianas Trench "Haven't Had Enough"
This band never fails to slay me with their material. Josh delivers the vocals in his signature tone that absolutely no one else could replicate. Those notes and those runs...like I would KILL to be able to sing like him. Unfortunately the US seems to be allergic to talent, despite their success on the Canadian charts Marianas Trench have yet to chart a single in the Billboard Hot 100 or the Mainstream Top 40 chart. This song has everything pop radio is looking for, a catchy hook, a huge chorus, and an upbeat production, I guess the programmers just weren't willing to take the risk Originally this was the lowest charting Marianas Trench song in my list, I think it's safer and more generic than many of their other efforts. However I re-listened to it, got to 2:52, and realized that it would be a damn crime to put it anywhere below #50 This is the second of three songs by Marianas Trench in the list.
Gavin DeGraw "Sweeter"
Wow. I guess I just forgot Gavin had this side to him because after the somewhat boring Not Over You that wore on me quickly, this song completely caught me off guard. It's a full-blown bluesy rock track that doesn't hold back in the slightest. I mean, that guitar. That thumping bass. And that huge chorus. I feel like the song was almost too much for Gavin, I could definitely hear that he was straining his voice and pushing it to its outermost limits. Plus his falsetto is kinda weak, I don't think he should continue relying on it to hit the high notes. But I guess I shouldn't be so critical, this is Gavin's best single in years and maybe ever. He showed that he's versatile and shouldn't be pigeonholed into the category of soft-rock males, and I respect him for that. This is the last of two songs by Gavin DeGraw in the list.
