The ad was ignorant. The defense of the ad by the CEO was so ignorant to the point where it was racist.

On the topic of actual (intended) blackface, in Korea, I feel like the continual reaction to blackface has lead to some change. Slow progress but the cartoons at the end of the article seem like progress.

I really don't get how someone could think the ad is NOT racist
Like they painted a white model's face in black and expect that to be okay?

Do Dunkin Donuts really need a model to advertise their s*** anyway?

I guess it just really upsets me how people think they can mock black people or Asians (bindis, making eyes smaller) or Arabs (terrorists) and think its okay! Like they are human beings and they've done nothing to you and you take it upon yourself to talk s*** about them or insult them

The thing is with that it doesn't have to match facial features the simple fact they imply (not saying in this case exactly) is what blacks look like is a mess.

Actually this mess got me thinking that all of this was a publicity stunt, following the logic that any kind of attention is good whether positive or negative, so they said **** it lets provoke people and get them talking since we dont have anything better to do

I'm on my phone so excuse any typos, but I really want to adress something about blackface in countries other than the US.

I live in The Netherlands and blackface is actually used quite often. Most famously by 'zwarte pieten' (look it up if you don't know what that is) but also on tv. I just really wish people would educate themselves about blackface because this **** needs to stop. I've noticed that a lot of non-americans like to defend themselves by saying that blackface only has a racist history in the US, but even if you ignore the history, you're still dressing up like stereotypes of black people for ***** and giggles. How do people not realize that this is wrong? And many people know about the racist history so there is no excuse really.

We have the blackface discussion every year when december comes around here and people get so defensive over their racism. It's disgusting actually.

I'm surprised this thread has remained opened for so long with everyone being mature about the topics. Normally ATRL just can't have intelligent discourse about anything to do with racism, sexism, homophobia and transphobia. The ignorance around here is really astounding at times.

Back on topic, there's just no justification for blackface. I don't care to hear the excuses that blackface doesn't have the same history in other countries because you can be pretty damn sure that those countries also have a history with racism that still persists, hence the prevalence of blackface. That DD ad was tasteless and indefensible.

Ok. So personally i find it sad how innocent lives are lost but as whats already been said things would get really messy if the US got in it. There is also the discussion that was had in the other thread about how there is something in it for the US Government they don't go in to "save" people just to save them there is a catch.
