So apparently critics got to see the NBC midseason trailers too; THR's ranking including the fall ones:

8. Taken - Feels USA-y, and doesn't capture the film's vibe.
7. Great News - Over-relies on one gag, and the characters seem to be from 2 different shows.
6. Powerless - Not funny. Surface-y. Energetic.
5. Trial and Error - Probably doesn't translate well to trailer. Seems funny but the tone is unclear.

And then the top half are the ones I'm interested in:
4. Good Place - Probably gives a better sense of the pilot than the show, but the people in it are very promising.
3. Timeless - Pretty/cool visuals and actors.
2. Emerald City - Show likely won't live up to the trailer. Great and stylish.
1. This is Us - Lots of heart.

No trailers for Marlon and Midnight Texas shown to critics, I see. Interesting. (The two spinoffs I believe have backdoor pilots.)

For ABC:
Hmm, I see Tuesdays and Thursdays not doing so well. But Tuesdays have been doing that, so.
I guess Speechless is their big ticket item. Not sure if Designated Survivor is at all compatible, but they'll surely promote the heck out of it.
I do like Secrets and Lies leading into Quantico. Now we'll see how much it was Ryan's power that made it do well S1...

Thursday midseason will apparently be Scandal + Catch again. Catch already flopping S1; okay then, ABC.

They were saying that The Real O'Neals was a late midseason entry this season. Next season it starts up in the Fall 9:30 on Tuesdays.

When We Rise will air at some point midseason. It's still to be scheduled.

I was on the network conference call for ABC this morning with the new network president. She's very confident in the new slate of shows. Can't wait for the screeners to go up today.

ABC clearly changed their Wednesday schedule to try to shore up their failing Tuesdays. But it getting put amidst a strong lineup does imply hope in Speechless.

Good lead-ins don't necessarily lead to hits tho.

I don't think I'm watching anything on ABC regardless.

I think the Tuesday 2 hour comedy block is the smartest decision yet of the 3 announced (and I've been championing it since last upfronts). Comedy is their strongest brand at the moment, and at 9:00 is will be up against This is Us, Scream Queens and likely NCIS:NO and Riverdale. A perfect counter to all of those programs. Should Housewife or Speechless (or O'Neals or Dr. Ken) flounder, they have Downward Dog and Imaginary Mary as backup. Moving SHIELD will temporarily "fix" 10:00.

Timeless more likely. This Is Us is going for the Parenthood crowd and that was never a huge success. And it also feels a bit like ABC's Six Degrees which didn't last either. Should something bomb (or change like Hearbeat/Chicago Med), they could rush something on the air earlier which could give it a back nine/partial order should it be successful. But its all what ifs at the moment.
That 8 episode order for The Blacklist: Redemption makes me think they were originally going to schedule it on Thursdays in the 8 weeks leading up to Thusday Night Football. They could probably use it now as a bridge between The Blacklist in the Fall and Spring.
