That's on one album, though. Did she have any songwriting credits on the other four albums that she has released? Rihanna fans can't sit up here and say that Rihanna has creative force in her music when she has only been given songwriting credits on ONE album out of her catalog, and most of her songwriting credits consisted of 3-4 other songwriters. That is not a representation of her being a songwriter or a creative force for that matter.
She deals with the fashion aspect. So she IS the force behind it. Hush.

Music video's =/= tour performances.
I've already complimented her improving vocals. However, no. I knew the "WMN?" performance would come to play. She scissors her thighs in and out, drops low, bends over. This is not Magic City Strip Club.
And you're right about that. Because the actual choreography she was getting into in the "SOS" video is 10x better than the tour performances of today you're trying to put above that. I mean she wasn't doing Janet moves, but it was at least a bit more engaging than what she does today.
I guess it's in a sense of wanting the best for and from your fav. If you KNOW your fav can do better wouldn't you want that for them?
Yes, I want Rihanna to be the best that she possible can. But I don't feel that she isn't being the best she can be under these circumstances: she only had a couple of months to record this album, she's recording the music that she feels reflects how she's currently feeling, and she's enjoying performing it. Wanting the best for her is one thing, but dragging every single thing that she does is another.
Deciding "Oh, I like this the picture the best!' and 'This is my favorite producer, let's pick him' are not really merit for great control over one's artistry....Rihanna may not sit around without offering her two cents, but any child can pick out the wallpaper for their room.

Exactly. I see the shade, but I understand where youre coming from and I agree.
Why do people feel that Rihanna needs to write, produce and direct all of her music and videos? She contributed very little to her first 3 albums and they were successful. Why should she change her creative process just to please people who are going to hate her anyway?

She shakes her hips in SOS. Where is the choreography?
To be honest, it's not about being deep or dark or making sad ballads or being super involved in the creation process. It's about being authentic. GGGB was just as Top 40-catering pop as LOUD is & Rihanna had like 0 credit on it iirc, but it was different and authentic to Rihanna. Hell, all music between 2006-2007 was authentic to the artist imo. Beyoncé was giving her own sound, Rihanna was giving her own sound, Fergie, Nelly Furtado, Justin Timberlake etc. Everyone back then tried to make a hit but they did it with their own style.
Now almost everyone sounds alike, like a bunch of derivatives of each other that's meant to be meshed into a 50 hr dance track @ the club.

But how are Man Down, California King Bed, Cheers, Skin, and Whats My Name part of that 50 hr dance track?
Name a song before Only Girl that was like it on the radio by any female...

Most people hate on her because she seems like she dosent really have control over her career. If she would be a little more creative and more hands on (I've used this so much in this thread ) I bet you theyd give her more respect.
She shakes her hips in SOS. Where is the choreography?
STOP IT.
You as a stan know good and DAMN well there was a little break down part of choreography on the beach in the video, she did more dancing there than she's been doing for the past two or 3 eras.
Anyway, We Found Love is my favorite song by her ever. Clearly people aren't sick of her, or think her songs are crap. She's #5 on iTunes while a song from her previous era is still #10.
But this thread isn't about the charts. I appreciate Rihanna for what she is. Her music consistently keeps me listening over & over again. She has something for me personally the other pop girls don't have (besides GaGa & Beyoncé - no shade, Rihanna isn't as talented in any category as those two ladies). I don't know what it is exactly but it makes me love her music a lot more.
