I really don't think that's right. Then why are artists allowed to be nominated for Live versions of their songs? The songs that are nominated are for studio versions. Example: Beyonce getting nominated for Halo (studio) in 2010 and then Halo (Live) in 2011. I think it's the performance within the studio recording. Otherwise why wouldn't they designate which performance?

The award is given based on the performance on the recording that is submitted, so it doesn't really NEED a live performance to be considered...
