She also never demonstrated any medical need for it, it was never administered by a doctor, and she never declared her intent to use it (protocol to do whether something is legal or not). In her case, 2 years seems fit .

For different drugs listed, two each for Serena and Venus. If someone can find the complete list (I thought it was like 4 for Serena not two) that'd be helpful but either way just because someone uses the same drugs doesn't mean they have the same conditions. Drugs can treat a variety of symptoms

EDIT: I've looked at the guidelines for TUEs. I think she did not qualify for one retroactive:

retroactive TUE. This is applicable to Persons who are not International-Level
or National-Level Athletes (Code Article 4.4.5) and (where the relevant NADO
so chooses) to National-Level Athletes in sports specified by the relevant
NADO (ISTUE Article 5.1 Comment); or
[Comment: Such Athletes are strongly advised to have a medical file
prepared and ready to demonstrate their satisfaction of the TUE conditions
set out at ISTUE Article 4.1, should an application for a retroactive TUE be
necessary following Sample collection.]
d. It is agreed, by WADA and by the ADO to whom the application for a
retroactive TUE is or would be made, that fairness requires the grant of a
retroactive TUE.

So to answer your question RO, it seems the only two drugs they share in common are prednisolone (which treats inflammation as well as some autoimmune conditions) and prednisone (same thing but also is an immunosuppressant).

Serena has had inflammation in her knees forever now and Venus is self explanatory. Of course without more documents displaying their conditions we don't know the exact reasons but we shouldn't need that info, it's personal.

Honestly b. and d. could've been debatable in her case. Don't you think its odd Maria who supposedly took Meldonium for an heart condition did not even TRY to apply for a retroactive TUE when she "realized" Meldonium became illegal ? Even if she did not qualify, any semi-competent lawyer would've advise her to do it as it could've proved her sincerity which I think would've been VERY valuable in her case afterwards. But of course, all of this would've been only possible if she had any health condition to begin with..

Nonetheless I don't see how the scientific names of these drugs can be shady.

Russia is pretty disgusting, going after black and gay athletes in the Olympics. The medication Serena and Venus are taking are obviously not for doping especially considering they followed procedure. They're taking very commonly prescribed and generic anti-inflammation and pain medication that even I have taken This situation is completely different from Sharapova's dope case.

In another sport, Simone Biles got shamed by the Russian hacker for taking ADHD medication, but it's obvious if you see her in any interview or an video that she has ADHD

Just reviewed it, you're correct there was a period during the French Open she took the corticosteroids. I'll still point to the fact that they do not count as PEDs but they were used during competition that one time. I agree the scientific names shouldn't be seen as shady.

Even though both sisters and Biles (from these reports) are cleared their names still are somewhat muddied now because of the lack of information some people have on the case. They just see drug names and think it's doping. Kind of like how Maria was accused of doping for over 10 years yet they were legal for 9.7 years of that tenure. It's gross to the athletes in general
