She had an Amazing year. But that doesnt take away from the fact that the Blind Side was one of the gems of her acting career and out of the Women nominated, she deserved it seeing as she was the best actress.

If it was based on being "overdue", Meryl would have had it in the bag

Meryl's already won two Oscars, so she's not overdue in that sense. She'll probably win another one soon, though.

Anyway, getting back to the original point, larger storylines always have an effect on an awards race, and that's not limited to the Grammys. Having a big comeback year is one of the most compelling storylines, and that's why Eminem is such a favorite.

Meryl already has 2 Oscars...and 16 nominations, more than any actor/actress dead or alive. She's been rewarded and then some. Some of her nominations (Music of the Heart, One True Thing ) were not deserved.

Meryl won her last Oscar in the 80's. And her other Oscar was won for her skill in a Supporting Role. Dont you think after 11 nominations after her last win, the Oscars would have given her the Oscar just based on the fact that it was long overdue ?

And in the long run... 5 yrs from now it would look like a much better winner for them. It would look like they made the right decision at the right time of her career.

Only two actresses in history have ever won three or more Oscars (Katharine Hepburn - 4; Ingrid Bergman - 3). It's a very exclusive club. The fact that she already has two Oscars, which in itself is a comparatively rare feat, plus a whole slew of nominations means that they haven't (at least until recently) felt the need to give her another award.

Put it this way, if Eminem had won AOTY for The Real Slim Shady and The Eminem Show, then Recovery probably wouldn't even be in contention to win.
