Neo Soul was the biggest gimmick to sell records in the early 2000s, not to take away from the artist/music.

That type of music was being done (and selling well) long before that trend.

Neo-Soul seems like a genre that should be happening right now, it just feels modern.

Pop music truly is the bottom of the barrel, there is no way current pop will sound modern in a decade.

Erykah could re-release Tyrone today and it would still sound fresh.
