The laser in Olivia's death went up to 10 mW, which was enough to burn through her eye, her skull, her brain, the bench, the floor, the whole building, the ground, etc....
They only use those lasers for, like, industrial stuff. The lasers used in Lasik surgery now automatically shut off if they go over 5 mW.

4 was full of tacky, predictable deaths, and the CGI was terrible. The only reason it exists was because they wanted to experiment with a 3D Final Destination.
My favorite death altogether in the series was Peter's, because of how justified it was.
