I know fans want to pretend it's just a "promo" song but if an official press release says "first" and if Rihanna says "first" herself…then why pretend it's not? The song is out, it's amazing and lets stick to supporting it rather giving imaginary false reports.

For the 15872th time, the first song that is released doesn't necessarily mean that it's the lead single.
We first heard Wait Your Turn (original Rated R lead single but turned to promo single) and then Russian Roulette and we all know which one was the real lead single.
Anyways, lead single or not, FFS is the biggest letdown in her whole career, but hopefully she will make up for it with next singles.
