Taylor is both Icon and Cult Legend. She is both a Singles Chart Topper (14 in the top 10 and 43 in top 40) and the non-singles are still of great quality even though they haven't made the top 40 -- ATW is one of the iconic songs in her repertoire. Her albums have more longivity than other current artist. I don't consider Taylor a chart chaser, but it is just that many of her singles end up on the charts, anyway. She wins awards anyway, but I think for Taylor, she is not looking at that. She is just writing what she knows and is relying on talent alone. A thing that I have noticed is that the biggest rock band in history, The Beatles, only had 7 grammys in their career, so the fact that Taylor didn't win one the last time around is nothing to be ashamed of. As long as Taylor continues to write great music, she will be remembered for that.

Taylor is neither an icon nor a "cult legend" (???)
She is, a flop.

Just releasing a love-related song as the lead would be enough for me to stay, no matter the producer or quality.

No! I think Taylor beats to her own drum. She is not going to go following others. Maybe, she'll use them, but when it comes down to it. Taylor's own songs are her own songs.

Her entries in singles chart is helped a LOT by internet. And album tracks. If we are talking the singles, not much to talk there. Really not much of a singles artist. Hence why She's not that popular like Rihanna or Katy in the first place. Most of Her popularity and commercial strength rely on albums and brand.
And about continuing to write great music..... that's basically what I'm championing. She'd survive the next two or three decades just by writing great music that doesn't try to appeal to everyone. But... Oh well.

Don't underestimate Taylor. Yes, Nicki is recognized in pop culture, but she hasn't had a big WOW moment, or pretty much anything very memorable.

She'll learn after LP5 flops. She'll repent back to chapman and her fans once they leave her.

Yes, I see your point, but that is what I am getting at too. But Popularity and Artistry are too different things, if I had to choose between the popularity of Rihanna or Katy or the artistry of Taylor, I would pick Taylor. I am just saying, I don't think Taylor necessarily has less popularity. Afterall she is in between albums. I also think it depends on the GP's taking a sympathetic approach to the media's shamming Swift or do they choose to believe what the media says about her (when it is not true, half of the time). But, we can only see what the next album brings.

From the "Is Nicki more iconic than Taylor?" thread.

Taylor Swift has a bigger audience both worldwide and in the US, and her writing about her exes/personal life is an iconic thing about her that's always referenced in reviews/articles whenever an artist writes a song about another person and makes it public (although she wasn't the first one to write about an ex, of course). Her surprised face, her dancing at awards shows/pretty much everything she does at an award show and her previous sundresses+cowboy boots+curls style remain more remembered by the GP than a lot of the things you listed above.

Lord already had the "gimmick" performance in 2013.
Every year, the Grammys have 1 big gimmicky pop spectacle.
2011: ET/ Part of Me
2012: Roman Holiday
2013: WANEGBT
2014: Dark Horse

Every time theres some new blonde young female country singer shes compared to Taylor.
Everytime someone writes a breakup song Taylor is mentioned
The hair flips are iconic.
The curls are iconic.
The bangs are iconic. Everyone was getting bangs.
The red lipstick is iconic. Red lipstick sales surged after Red was released.
The shorts are iconic.

She's not on the same stratospheric level of fame wise like Rihanna, Beyonce, or Katy. The iconic celebrity kind of fame. If anything, don't shoot me, Her popularity is more similar to Bruce Springsteen. So it does seem that She's not as popular, but just as "big". Get what I mean?
