Listen to "Grown Woman"
The lowdown: The message might better suit an artist who’s not a married mother, but Beyoncé’s mighty roar (“I’m a
groooown woman”) proves that she can still sell a female empowerment anthem better than anyone. The African polyrhythms, which eventually evolve into full-blown chanting, provide the album’s most lively and fun musical moment; it’s a club hit just waiting to happen.
ATRL says...: "Love the Snoop Dogg sample!" wrote
Penk. "This should have made the album."
helloDer agreed that "Grown Woman" should have been on the standard edition. It "makes me wish we had heard her full African-influenced album," he said.
bluth "would rather have had 'Standing on the Sun,' but this is okay."
lovesong thought "the video is the best thing about it."
August agreed: "The love I have for this is ALL in the video. I like to think Beyoncé filmed this on the same day as the 'Superpower' video and snuck Second Lead Vocalist out of filming while Blue distracted Michelle."
Best bit: "I'm a grown woman/So I know how to ride it/I'm a grown woman/And I'm so erotic"
