Racism, sexism, homophobia are NOT the same thing. Just because the first two end with -ism doesn't mean they are the same! Yes, they are all forms of bigotry, but they have different histories and manifest themselves in different ways. You can't easily compare them. You can compare them, but it's complicated. You are comparing the two terms when they shouldn't be compared.

Let's get back to the basic of sexual orientation. What is sexual orientation?

a person's sexual identity in relation to the gender to which they are attracted; the fact of being heterosexual, homosexual, or bisexual.

It is defined in relation to gender. Sexual orientation has nothing to do with race.

I get that you are trying to argue "if gays can exclude women, then anyone can exclude based on race" doesn't work. That same argument would justify segregating bathrooms, locker rooms, changing rooms, and sports teams based on race, because we already do that based on gender. See where we are getting at? Don't get me wrong, I am totally for gender neutral bathrooms, but I do not think every bathroom should be gender neutral. That is a discussion for another time.

If we want to talk about sexual orientation in a more abstract way, then obviously heterosexual sex is necessary for a species to reproduce. Thus, it seems that being heterosexual is "natural". Of course we all know homosexuality and bisexuality are natural too; they are observed in practically every mammal and some non-mammal. There are many different theories/hypotheses about this. A popular theory is that is that if some member of a species are homosexual then that creates less competition for resources (finding mates) and helps mitigate over population problems. The gay sibling can then help the family by being a caretaker for his/her nephews or nieces.

My whole point is that there is a reasonable justification for homosexuals to not be attracted to the opposite sex. There is not the same justification for not being attracted to race. The

I agree with everything you said except the last part. There were crucial issues about racism in this age and they are still continuing. I agree that it may even crossed to an unconscious level but not in this case. One is not ''dismissing'' entire race with their sexual preferences. Racism is very important topic which should be studied in various disiplines but you are all acting a little bit conservator in this topic.

I'm positive this example fits PERFECTLY into your definition of racism. Find white more attractive than POC, or in this case ONLY finding white people attractive, is essentially saying "white people's attractiveness is superior to POC's attractiveness". How is that not the same?

Everyone has their opinions and preferences. They may sound 'dumbest things that you've ever heard' but that doesn't change that it is THE truth.

Of course you can't force anyone to magically change and become attracted to different. Anymore than you can force people to do anything. It is not different than trying to "force" overt racists, e.g. the KKK, into liking POC in any sense.

Racism isn't easily changed. It takes generations, and it takes a lot of effort. We can start by having this conversation and having it with many other people. We can start by not being silent and calling out this racism and any other racism we see. I would argue this is a symptom of how segregated our communities are and the lack of positive POC in everyday media.

If someone isn't attracted to POC, then they should ask themselves "why?". If their answers are "Idk" ," I just am", or anything to that effect, then it racism and it is probably really because of the reasons I stated above.

Not really... When people think black people, they think dark-skinned people of African descent. I'm sorry, but you're making such a simple non-issue more complicated than it is. Of course, there are exceptionalities in race. But, people of African descent who are very light-skinned are either typically albino or mixed. Someone who is white or appears white, but has some African descent in them will be thought of as "white" and thus the phrase "no blacks" wouldn't apply to them. It shouldn't be this difficult to explain.

Well, both of them are mixed, so thanks for strengthening my point... But, yes they're perceived as black.

EDIT: I did a Google Image search for "black people" and what I got are very dark skinned people. That's what "black" typically refers to—skin color. The only exception being Barack Obama, who also has very dominant African features.

Celebrities are kind of outliers because if you know their race, you'll perceive them as such. Beyoncé doesn't "pass" for white because she openly identifies as black. And Beyoncé is (sometimes) darker than Shakira:



Obviously there are times when Beyoncé is lighter, but Beyoncé is perceived as black because people just know her as such.
