RECAP: TOP SINGLES #100-#51
RECAP: TOP SINGLES #50 - #41

Sounding similar to the previous Daughtry or Nickelback sound, Daughtry blasted 2009 with "No Surprise," a song which features top-notch rock lyrics, crispy guitar riffs coupled with Chris Daughtry's clear and ever passionate vocals. The song is about the effort to end a relationship without hatred and disrespect, which is a concept not really popular among goodbye songs nowadays. The song is included in a platinum CD "Leave This Town," which also has a lot of other potential hits. It's definitely no surprise that Daughtry is still around and rocking the rock charts just like he did before with his previous record.

Back to back American Idol graduates, this time around with Jordin Sparks and "Battlefield." At first listen, you would really sense that it has "hit" written all over it, with its sick drum beats, huge exploding all-out chorus with Jordin's vocals towering above. A couple of lines have surely stuck in a lot of people's minds, "Get your armor!" (which really sounds like "Get Shawarma") and the repeated declamation of "Battlefield, battlefield, battlefield." Thanks to her American Idol devouring performance and to Ryan Tedder, Jordin has left 2009 with a beautiful legacy.

Joining Ne-Yo's "Mad" as one of the few songs which also made the 2008 list are The All American Rejects. "Gives You Hell" is the bands best single to date, with about 3 million copies sold in the US last year. The lyrics of the song are filled with a rudely sarcastic attitude. The catchiness of "Dirty Little Secret" is also present here, and the song, especially the chorus part is way too catchy that it's so easy to remember.

Pulling off an impressive run towards the latter part of the year is "Empire State of Mind," Jay-Z's Billboard #1 hit with Alicia Keys on the featured side of the fence. Never really thought that I'd pay attention to Jay-Z's rapping, but Alicia Keys made it more pleasurable to listen to, hence I end up appreciating the full track, which I believe is one of the better collaborations of 2009.

If there's one female artist that's gonna smash hard in the Top 40, its Lady GaGa. "LoveGame" is the first of four entries from her, which has an impressive finish of #36. 2009 has been an entire GaGa show, she has established tons of fans all over the world and stans here on ATRL. She's so huge on ATRL I think the mods should put a separate GaGa subforum.

David Cook's one and only song in the Top 100, "Come Back To Me" is one rightful song to be released as a single. Unlike his disappointing first release "Light On," CBTM song is something that I really liked and enjoyed listening to even before it was released. It features his amazing low registers and his nerve-wracking growls, which shows his wide vocal range and capabilities.

"Down" is the song that propelled Jay Sean to the top of the charts. Infectious beats and an incredibly catchy chorus sent party boys and girls up on their feet and in effect, buying this song which placed Jay Sean in the map of the world music industry,

This very light track by Ciara that features JT, "Love Sex Magic" is a mixture of what a smooth and cool pop/RnB/dance track should sound like. The funky guitar sounds and the great vocal fusion between the two artists maintained a fun-filled and sexy atmosphere all throughout the song.

The fourth and final American Idol alumni in this set comes in at #32. Kelly Clarkson's "Already Gone" is a song delivered with so much emotion, and was a good departure from the usual rock-pop sound from her two previous singles. Although it sounded a lot like "Halo," the quality of the song isn't affected at all, and Kelly made this song her own and will surely be rewarded as one of her most powerful tracks.

Taylor closes this set with a "Girl Next Door" by Saving Jane-inspired track "You Belong With Me." The anthem of cheerleader wannabe's.

Oh and I love this YBWM cap
