I don't get the hype with John Mayer, I find him pretty boring, and Fantasy Ride is too high! Hopefully a better Top 2

Reeces' Best Of '09: Top 30 Albums (02-01)

02. The Black Eyed Peas “The E.N.D.”
Standout Tracks: 'Alive', 'Boom Boom Pow', 'Imma Be', 'Rock That Body', 'Missing You', 'Electric City', 'I Gotta Feeling', 'Meet Me Halfway'
Energy never dies is what E.N.D. stands for and that’s pretty much what this album is about. After having an amazing year as a solo artist, Fergie goes back to her old pals and contributes in making one of the best albums of the year. The Black Eyed Peas have completely taken over the world with this new record, having two of the most successful singles of the year and breaking records just for the sake of doing it. The E.N.D. has a more oriented dance-sound than their old projects, making the album sound current and exciting. The monster singles ‘Boom Boom Pow’ sets the bar really high for the rest album with its electronic beats and catch phrases that make even the most boring person get up and dance. A more futuristic sound is present in ‘Rock That Body’, which is extremely addictive and hits you on the first listen. ‘Meet Me Halfway’ comes next and Fergie treats the chorus delicately, she sounds beautiful here. The infectious ’Imma Be’ is energetic and clever, while the David Guetta produced ’I Gotta Feeling’ has a very positive vibe about it, it changes your mood immediately when you’re feeling down. Every members adds something different to ‘Alive’ proving why they are such a great band, they complement each other perfectly. ‘Missing You’ plays right after and Fergie nails this one with her powerful and full of emotion voice, while Will.I.Am’s make ‘Ring-a-Ling’ sound irresistible. They claim that life would be so much easier if it was a party all the time in the next track, while Fergie goes wild in ‘Outta My Head’, just hilarious. The sound of drums and a Jamaican sound accompany the Peas in the brilliant ‘Electric City’. They rant about society in ‘Now Generation’ and try to unite the world in ‘One Tribe’, showing that this album is not only about partying. Overall, The E.N.D. is a very complete album, simply flawless from beginning to end.

01. Rihanna “Rated R”
Standout Tracks: 'Fire Bomb', 'Te Amo', 'Hard', 'The Last Song', 'Rude Boy', 'Russian Roulette', 'Rockstar 101', 'Cold Case Love'
Yeah, who didn’t see this coming? But I can’t hide the truth, Rihanna once again made the best album of the year, and it wasn’t even a close race. Her last album, Good Girls Gone Bad delivered hit after hit, but don’t be fooled, this is not Rated R‘s main purpose. With this record, Rihanna shows a clear evolution as a musician and at times when I listen to it I start to believe that this is her best album ever, but I think it’s too early to decide that. The album kicks off with one of the best intros I have ever heard, when the creepy and disturbing ‘Mad House’ invites you to run away if you’re frightened. Wait Your Turn is a work of art, lyrically speaking, lines such as "I pitch with a grenade, swing away if you feeling brave" or the classic "I’m such a ****ing lady" make this a fantastic listen. The anthem ‘Hard’ is already taking over the U.S., and how can it not? It’s just too hard to ignore and her confidence is at an all time high in this song. The slow ‘Stupid In Love’ shows the vulnerable side of a relationship and she carries the song quite nicely, while the insanely catchy ‘Rockstar 101’ is a perfect track for the summer and it never gets old. Lead single ‘Russian Roulette, shows vocal growth and its surrounded with deep lyrics and clever metaphors; not only that but her heavy gasps and the shot at the end add life to the track. The break-up song ‘Fire Bomb’ is just brilliant, definitely one of the best songs she has ever recorded and the lyrics are simply mind-blowing. ‘Rude Boy’ is the only track with the pop vibe from Good Girl Gone Bad, the catchiest song in the album without a doubt. Rihanna joins forces with Will.I.Am to produce ‘Photographs’, a slow jam where her voice sounds beautiful. 'G4L' is just fierce full of attitude, here she warns any mother****a who wants to disrespect or lets you know that acting like a bitch it's gonna get you hurt and the opening line "I lick the gun when I'm done 'cause I know that revenge is sweet" is just too much to handle. The slow 'Cold Case Love' describes with clever metaphors what happened to her back in February and the album ends beautifully with the sad yet positive 'The Last Song', a truly underrated track that deserves way more attention. Love it or hate it, Rated R will be remembered for years, making it not only the best album of the year, but one of the best of this decade. Hands down.
