That's your problem though.
If the author is right despite the mess, then the author is right, and that's all that should be relevant to an 18 page discussion.

This is absolutely hypocritical and ironic because 1. It's an article generalizing black women and 2. Black women have adopted gay lingo and culture themselves (See: Real Housewives of Atlanta, etc). They even admit to doing it!

What I find annoying in the US is that, as a melting pot full of diversity, no one wants to share each others cultures for the beauty of it. Black culture is a significant part of American culture for example, so of course other races in the US will adopt some of the styles/mannerisms blacks have contributed onto our society. What I want to know is, when will we acknowledge one another as Americans first and foremost before we start labeling each other as "acting black" or "acting white" or whatever the case. It's gross. We should be able to embrace one another as Americans contributing ideas and trends without separating and limiting ourselves to our own race. It's just so bland.

Near the end of the article she mentions "strong black female" and "rachet girl", she isn't saying that's what all black women are, but those stereotypes and exaggerated mannerisms are the ones that people latch onto. The article is against those stereotypes and against black women being reduced to them. Look at the first post, listening to Beyonce makes that poster feel like a rachet girl.
I've seen Beyonce called ghetto, ratchet, a sassy black woman and an independent woman who doesn't need a man. That's a result of stereotyping and it being acceptable to say these things. Black women should be viewed as full human beings not these five traits is at the heart of this article. If people stopped with the "I'm a black woman because of x, y. and z", that'd be easier.

Just quoting myself at you because you missed the point.

As white gay men, we are able to inhabit the bodies and dialects of low-income black women "for fun", without dealing with any of the social and institutional racism that comes along with it. We can then just go back to being white men whenever we choose. That's a privilege that isn't afforded to the people we are imitating.
|
To add, several people are loudly proclaiming that being gay is much "harder" than being black. While it's insane to start a pissing content over oppression, I will say this: as a gay white man, I can still choose to move and exist in any space I want. I never enter a grocery store wondering if I'm going to be followed through the aisles, or pass someone on a dark street and wonder if they think I'll mug them. I have never passed a police officer and felt like I had a target on my back. As far as I'm concerned, our (very real) struggles can never compare to literally wearing your oppression on your skin.

In fact it's really just a form of white privilege, over an oppressed minority, by a lesser oppressed minority.

This is certainly not true.
What kind of ownership? Their lingo and gestures?
Only a 'certain' type of gays does that, and even then I doubt they're knowingly trying to double a black woman.
I don't see black woman as an accessoire (at all) or something to copy, it is true however that when I see a black woman who has it all I feel like she's a strong woman, that is a stereotype on my part.
I guess it's different in the US than in Europe tho.

When you're doing these things as a white gay man you do not face the same stereotypical comments, racism and discrimination a black woman would so it aggravates them that you want to pick and chose thigns they do that you like without having to suffer what hey suffer.

Not one lie told here. If I hear another white, gay man say that he's got a "sassy black woman trapped inside" him, I'm going to flip out. It's racist. End of story.

But it's obvious that she wasn't writing this to prove a point, but to solicit response.

too bad people are too busy in here dismissing each others struggles i mean everyone deals with their issues some people do need to take lessons on intersectionality though and maybe some in here would be less dismissive. Its difficult when someone is denied basic rights for being gay but its even more difficult when someone is denied basic rights at one institution for being gay another for being black and another for being a woman.
