She honestly didn’t lie; that is some gospel tea, and it’s about time a celebrity took a stand and made such a statement. I also give kudos to Lena Dunham for standing up for Dylan Farrow.
I can’t with some of you trying to turn this into a stan-war or trying to discredit Marina’s opinion because she isn’t as commercially successful as other artists.
To be honest, we can be ignorant or uneducated at times. I honestly didn’t know the extent of the R Kelly or Woody Allen allegations until they resurfaced within the last few months. After educating myself, I am honestly appalled.
And to someone’s earlier statement that some people do deserve forgiveness; this is very true—however, some celebrities have admitted their transgressions and paid a penance. R Kelly paid people off to be quiet and to avoid further prosecution; Woody Allen has never formally admitted anything—nor has Terry Richardson. Even if you take Dylan’s allegations against Woody out of the picture, he still (as a known fact) married his partner’s teenaged adopted daughter, whom he had known since she far younger & underage; aka Dylan’s adopted daughter. At the very least, it IS CREEPY.
The victim shaming has been sad—and it’s everywhere, not just ATRL. R Kelly, Terry, and Woody are all talented at what they do, and we’ve all enjoyed their work. Of course we’d love to continue enjoying their work without feeling guilty, but given the information available, it’s a responsible thing to do for an educated person. Stop enabling them.
